I wish them success. My net usage has rapidly decreased of late with the introduction of AI into facebook, search sites and much more. And I am far from anti-tech but I do have penchant for wanting make my "own" decisions in lieu of constant interruption by ludicrous suggestions. And, yes, when possible I turn them off or avoid them to the greatest extent available. What drives me nuts beyond being often erroneous is how pedestrian so much AI generated written summaries are. Grade school IMO.

So Bud how do you really feel about it? smile

Applaud the effort. Suspect this will be a cat and mouse game for a long, long time...

The problem I see with this approach is that it only works going forward from this point. It doesn't address all of the millions of songs already out there and already scanned to teach the AI.

Kinda like closing the barn doors after the cows have already gotten out.

Great read Herb. Yeah, hope it's not too little too late but it's better than nothing.

Interesting read....
Seems similar to the fight on cars over horses in the days. Cars won, but it never meant that people should stop loving & using horses.

What about millions upon millions of tunes that can be (and will be) used by the companies who hold copyrights? Warner, Universal, Sony and so on. I mean these actual companies providing AI generative services for XX monthly subscriptions. I think I've read somewhere it's already happening. I have no interest in (deliberately) ripping off someone's else work, even when it is OK from a legal standpoint.

That is why in part I like BIAB and a few other somewhat similar software titles so much. These studio musicians got paid, knowing that their takes will be repurposed by other people.

How long will it be before HarmonyCloak is thwarted by HarmonyUnCloak (probably created by AI)? Sounds like the copy protection wars in the last 15 years of the 1900s.

This will all play out at the corporate level anyway. Corporation A realizes it is losing money due to its IP being stolen by (AI) Corporation B. Corporation A either buys Corporation B and uses their tech for the same purposes or Corporation B survives and puts A out of business. Meanwhile, I still work as a greeter at the Walmart for minimum wage while writing brilliant songs that no one except me (and my poor wife) will ever hear! I'm kinda looking forward to a time when our AI Overlords just take control of everything and clean up our mess one way or the other!

Yes, that battle has been played out and lost.

AI companies infringing on copyrights are now licensing materials from copyright holders. People who make up only a small portion of their libraries will get little or no compensation, and content creators will compete with AI that's using their own content as source material.

It's always been tough to compete in a world where market forces reward lower and lower prices. AI has just made some markets even more precarious. It's been predicted AI will run out new material to consume by around 2028. That's not too far off.
