One can usually play notes 1, 2, 3, 5 or 6 over any major chord without conflict, or
notes 1, 2, b3, 4, 5 or 6 over any minor chord without conflict,
so provided the notes A, B and D are one of the above in each chord, they'll usually work just fine.

Of course one can play any note one likes, it depends upon how much dissonance/tension one is happy with.
