Hi Folks !

First of all, I'd like to thank the artists who left comments on my banjo tracks. I appreciate them at least as much as the beautiful music and songs I listen to on the site. Beautiful things and wonderful discoveries! I'd also like to thank Ray for explaining how the posts work. There was no intention on my part to highlight my songs, on the contrary.

So here, it's a song about an imaginary Indian Chief. Text in French and English below.
Manitoba
Drums Funk-rock '70 slow
Bass, 908
Acoustic guitar, 3653
Nylon guitar, 3113
Mandole, 3155
Electric guitar, 869
Fiddle, 3381
Flute VST
Vocals, Paul

Good listening

Manitoba

Dans le lit de la rivière
Par un vieux chemin de pierres
La vision des souvenirs
Quelques victoires, quelques martyrs
La fumée des calumets
S’en irai à tout jamais
Quelque part, vers d’autres lieux
Vers des sommets victorieux

ENGLISH VERSION
At the entrance of the great teepee
The Indians are gathered around
Today is the grand day
Manitoba is back in town
Warriors with painted faces
With fevered and fiery graces
Come to dance around the fire
Honoring gods they admire

It’s the dance of the sacred pole
When the tomahawk takes its toll
You hear the pounding of the feet
The steps of Manitoba's beat
It’s the song that mingles with cries
Drowning out the Spirit’s guise
Could there be a final fight?
Manitoba

In the river’s bed below
Along an ancient path of stone
Visions of the days long gone
Some victories, some passed on
The smoke from peace pipes trails away
Lost to us now, and here to stay
Somewhere beyond, toward new domains
To triumphant, lofty plains

Routou, Nice production and vox! In my mind there is a lack of prosody (i.e., the music and melody don't match the meaning of the lyrics); however, this can be for one of two reasons from my perspective: 1) I have a stereotype of how Indigenous Indian music sounds; or 2) it is sung in French which, although well done, does not equate to the American/Canadian Indian dialog. Again, this may be my stereotype of the indian language from watching too many John Wayne moves.

Overall, as I stated, this is a beautiful song and the vox are spot on.

Paul, nice use of BiaB instruments and a nice mix. Vocals are very strong. Challenging topic for a non-native(?) songwriter for sure.

Ok, in my opinion, this is a song about what it describes, not necessarily have to sound or be sang in a native tong, which on other hand, unless one understand the native dialect wouldn't know what it says. I think is very well resolved and yes, strong vocals.

Cheers

Mike B.

Hi buddies !
I hope you are well. Thanks for the comments, they make my day. What a wonderful program BIAB is! I usually make my own arrangements but now I've gotten lazy and the result is something surprising so I'm simplifying my existence. Yes, the English text is just a free version that doesn't fit with the music. It's just to get an idea of the meaning and I'm sure that in native language it could be powerful. Keep producing beautiful music as you do. There's a real musical identity and overall a beautiful artistic richness. Thank you a thousand times over for your tracks.

WOw, special sounds, Paul. Great passion in the vocal and instruments seem to understand the need. Excellent mix. With all the cool stuff going on in it, it must have been difficult, but you were definitely up for the chalenge. Wonderful use of BiaB. I love how the song builds in intensity.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

You coaxed an excellent sound from those Real Tracks. A very good and impassioned vocal. I enjoyed listening to singing in a language other than English, so I could hear the emotion carry the meaning of the lyrics. Mix sounds perfect to me.

We like the lyric as it reminded us of our reading about Tecumseh.
The lyric displayed a lot of good imagery.

And the vocals and the band are very good … as is the mix.

We enjoyed hearing the French too!

Well done.
