I have a real track piano in BIAB. I am trying to export the midi of that so that I can use it in my DAW (and make a few changes to it, rather than simply exporting the audio). However, exporting works fine for my bass guitar, guitar and drums, but the piano is just... out of tune... when I import that.
The piano part looks and sounds fine in BIAB. If I look at the midi in my DAW though, something has gone wrong (looks ok in the piano roll, but if I look at the score there's def something not right). Any ideas at all? I thought maybe there was a whole load of pitchbend being applied, but that doesn't seem to be the case...

Can you please go through the exact steps that you use to export (click this, select that, etc). As much detail as possible is preferable. And also the exact steps you use to import - which tools you use, click this, open that, select this etc?
What version of BIAB (and Build) are you using?
Were the Guitars and Drums exported at a different session than the Piano? Were any audio settings changed in between the sessions?
Exactly which piano RealTrack are you using?
As much detail as possible always assists remote diagnosis.

I'm on the current (?) MacOS version (Version 2024 (803))
And saving via Save Special/Save Song as Midi File, with the export settings as below:
I can supply the resulting midi file if required, but I'm not able to attach it to the forum post apparently...
Re importing - just dragging and dropping into the Cubase project (same as I do for other midi files, and in fact other exports I've done from BIAB previously). I've tried exporting the piano seperate to the other tracks, or at the same time - the end result is the same each time though.
Looking further at your first image of the Piano Roll, there are a significant number of overlapped notes. These are the notes that are supplied with the aqua color. Many of these notes might create some discordant sounds, especially any notes that are within a semitone of the adjacent note, and others that are not relevant to the chord triads, such as the D natural and B natural in bar 5 playing together an Eb chord, and the E natural and G natural notes with the Ab chord on Bar 7.
I suspect that the problem may not be with the MIDI after it has been exported, but more with the MIDI inside BIAB.
How were these MIDI notes generated?

That particular styles has RealTracks for the piano, and we can be somewhat confident that the MIDI part is recorded directly from the piano performance, and is not transcribed separately. When I tried that style, in the key of Eb, I got satisfactory MIDI data with no overlapping notes.
Question: Is there a chance that this MIDI was imported / merged from elsewhere?

Hmm, weird. I've only generated the real track through BIAB (I haven't imported midi into BIAB). I have done multiple re-gens over specific phrases/bars.
I've put the exported midi file here for reference: link
OK, that MIDI file is a combination of all tracks. It contains data on the following channels (zero based) Track 0 - Candlelight Carol on Channel 0 Track 1 - Bass on Channel 1 Track 2 - Drums on Channel 9 Track 3 - Piano on Channel 2 Track 4 - Guitar on Channel 6
It was possibly saved as a MIDI Type 0 file, where all channels are combined. Can you recall how you saved the MIDI data, was it Type 0 or Type 1 ?

All I can determine is that the MIDI file (including that latest one) seems to contains data for all of the channels. The data consists of Bass, Drums, Piano and Guitar, and looking at the data in the Piano Roll view, everything seems to be on Channel 3.

It's fine that it contains all of the other instruments, as I want the data for all instruments, but the piano just sounds out of tune (not just incorrect notes, but it sounds more like there's pitch-ben data there or something (which there isn't))...
From what I can determine, there are 2813 notes and 10,155 other events, mostly consisting of Sustain Pedal events, all on Channel 3. There is some corruption in my view and I think this will be difficult to resolve.
Not much more I can help with, unfortunately.
(And where are all the Mac expert people?)

I couldn't find any Pitch Bend events. I think that is a result of discordant data that doesn't match the actual chord, as I explained earlier.

I listened to your piano midi, isolated' from all the other instruments. I confirmed it has problems just as you stated. I got this "error message" when I sent the midi to Pianoteq:
So I went and got the original Piano Midi from the RT: ~2049:Piano, Acoustic, Solo-Accompaniment CountryWaltzJohn Sw 085 and dragged that to my DAW and all was fine.
Sounds fine here. I assume you did exactly what I did. You went and got the midi file associated with this specific RT. It playes fine. This could suggest that the issue is with the OP's workflow. My workflow is tried and true - drag and drop the midi content and then save to my daw with each midi channel sent to a separate track in my DAW.
I did the following: 1: Set the Style to _WHIMSY. 2: File > Open > Special > Open MIDI file and loaded the O/P's MIDI file. 3: Dragged the Piano Radio Button to the MIDI item on the drop zone, & wait for it to change to green. 4: File > New. 5: File > Open > Special > Open MIDI File and select the newly created MIDI file from the \bb\DragDrop\ folder. 6: Set the Style to _WHIMSY again, (it had defaulted to ZZJAZWAL and was disabled).
I didn't use a DAW at all, I only used BIAB, but I think the results are the same.
There is a significant change in the file size: - The O/P's original MIDI file is 126kb, and the new MIDI file is ~15kb. - The original file contains thousands of Sustain Pedal events. I have no idea how thousands of sequential Sustain Pedal events got to be included in the file.
