Hi, all:

Well, I’ve been taking an unintentional sabbatical from music making . . . and by that I mean only that the well has been pretty dry creatively and the motivation lacking, LOL!. Between that, some fall travel, and a head cold that just doesn’t seem to want to go away, I haven’t been very present on the board these past couple (or few) months. Hoping to make amends.

Thankfully, though, I have a handful of collaborators that help keep me in the mix, and there will be at least two coming in the short term . . . and maybe a couple more by year’s end. We’ll see. But this is the first: a collaboration with a frequent collaborator, Christian Devienne. Christian wrote the music, I penned the lyrics, and my head cleared just enough last weekend for me to lay down these vocals.

I hope you enjoy the listen. I’m determined to spend some time catching up on many of your posts these next few days. The ones that I listened to this evening were stellar (but no surprise).

Here’s the song:

HEART CHANGE

Here are the lyrics:

So I’ve fallen off my feet
Pick me up
Watch me weep
I still want you for myself
It’s so unjust
How you’re with someone else

I can only hope that something someday
Will come around and make a heart change

I’m in the thick of things
The doubt and hurt love brings
When it turns from something good to bad
I’m lost still needing you
Wishing you still need me to
‘Cause loving you was all I ever had

So I’m waiting on a sign
A little luck
A shift in time
To show me how I oughta grow
‘Cause I’ve been stuck
I need to learn to let you go

Is my only hope that something someday
Will come around and make my broken heart change

And here’s the band:

Actually, Christian will need to supply these in a separate post, as I don’t have the band details as of this posting.

Nice one. We all need to step away from music every now and then. It helps to recharge the batteries and give you a new perspective and new ideas to work on.

This one is well worth the wait.

Chris, you may have been gone for awhile but you sure came back with a blockbuster of a song!
Great vocal, arrangement, and mix.
Loved those lyrics!

Excellent collaboration. I particularly like the instrumentation in this song.

This is a great ballad that has everything it needs and nothing more.
Perfect choice of instruments.
LOVE the vocals (could have a little less reverb, though).
Well done from both of you!

Love the write, Chris, the changes, the dynamics --and the lyrics, Deej. Not to mention your excellent choice of collaborators, Chris & Deej. Deej, your unique vocal is always so darn good, filled with emotion and talent. If this song doesn't make her change her heart, she has none.

Enjoy whatever happens!

It sounds like a ballad from a famous band from the 70s. Personally I find it very well done and I love the guitars and the voice sometimes reminds me of Mike Jagger.
Good job young guys!

Herb, Mario, Bob, DC Ron, WaoBand, B.D., Paul, Jaco(?), David S, Vic, Floyd, Laurent, Ezekiel, and Dave:

Thanks so much to you all for the listens and kind comments. I’m glad the vocal seems to be coming across OK . . . certainly not a 100% yet, but I though it worked notwithstanding . . . and happy it did.

B.D.: We struggled to find the right volume level for the vocal. After listening to this again a few days after, I think it may still be a bit too forward . . . but regardless, I agree that maybe a bit less reverb would have been the way to go.

Stay safe and well all!

Sounded great to me, Deej. Any opportunity to hear you sing, I'm going to grab. One of the best and most distinctive voices in the world. Amazing the talent here, especially, you, Greg and Floyd. I'll always treasure the songs we collaborated on - I will listen to those tunes to the end of my days.
