Lean It On The Dreaming Tree on Soundcloud Lean It On The Dreaming Tree on YouTube A song considering the consequences of ignoring dreams. The original, entitled Heaven Only Knows Your Name, was recorded in 1991, but is now lost somewhere. In 2020 it was redone with new lyrics and a title changed to Everybody Know.... But I wanted to hear Dave play these Blues changes, so I just rewrote it all. Unfortunately this time I had to lower it a half step to get my vocal to reach it properly (or almost). Dave, unlike the average guitar player, has no problem with Eb. Now there's just the lull that's after the happiness that left with the breeze. Now and then we wish how it was but wanting only makes what it does. Until that day we all agree to lean it on the dreaming tree. We're all just brains with thoughts asunder, sharing what we think and feel. We share our hopes and often wonder is any of this really real. How are we to notice beauty when goals we make just block our view? Guess we'll have to all agree to lean it on the dreaming tree. In the quiet we remember the dreams we had when we were young. The dreaming tree stood tall and slender, where all our hopes and wishes hung. Though time has changed the paths we wander, the tree remains our guiding light. In spite of all the gifts we squander, we dream the tree will grow each night. When the world feels cold and distant, and shadows fall upon our way, the dreaming tree stands firm, persistent, a beacon through our darkest day. With every leaf a whispered promise, of dreams that still can come to be, we’ll find our strength and maybe solace leaning on the dreaming tree. Marty, smokin' tune! The band is super and really well arranged. Love those changes! You and Dave really nail the guitar and bass parts, and your vocals are superb. Really enjoyed the little vocal inflections you put in there. Nice write/re-write, too! That was a lightning fast five minutes, and I enjoyed every second!

Marty,
Another terrific tune. Dave really slays that guitar on this one (but then, doesn’t he always?). Great mix on this . . . excellent vocals. . . full and rich sounding production. Outstanding!!

Hi Marty & Dave. Smoking minor blues! Screaming guitar, mournful singing, and a nice fable.

Marty and Dave, another masterpiece from the dynamic duo. Great vocal, bass, guitar, and mix - as what I expect from you two. Fantastic blues - loved it.

Great song with some spectacular Dave guitar throughout. Though I don't think I ever had a dreaming tree. From my late teens all I ever had a passion for was writing and other forms of creativity, particularly including music and art, but I never ever had a specific ambition or hope for the future. Aged 19 I had a spontaneous experience of the Divine-in-All and from that point understanding the inner world took precedence over the outer. Re both worlds, as I agge I more and more feel that I'm just a witness.

MORE WOODBLOCK! This is cool Marty - it kicks off with Dave's scorching Eb musings and it keeps that tension against the melody & narrative. Love the bass...pure Bear Porridge choices. Excellent song & production...leaving lots of space for Dave to stretch was a great decision. That voice - oh yeah...always.

Hey Marty,
Apologies for the brevity of comments, but time is my enemy in recent weeks.
Smoking guitar and elusively good vocal. Sounds like it came straight from the studio. You and Dave never disappoint. EXCELLENT!!!

Cool song, cool changes, great guitar work throughout, you vocals works great on this one. Cool video also. Thanks, Elliott. Back in the 90s jamming with a bunch of Blues guys was when I devised the changes --you know. a llittle different than the usual 1-4-5. Lots of folks say 143 is a way to say I love you; 145 is for I love Blues. Glad you like them, and I KNEW you'd love Dave's guitar. Thank you, Ron! Dave breathes guitar, and his breath is very contagious. 5 minutes --that's the album version. It should've been only one verse after the solo, but I couldn't stop preaching. Marty and Dave...you guys are amazing...you consistently and masterfully produce such great blues tunes...Marty you are the master of the minor keys and such a diverse writer and wordsmith...you killed it again...Dave is undoubtably the best blues player I've ever heard...he always knows the right tone and nuances to use to make the songs come alive...individually and collectively you guys rock...another super song...does your creative brain ever go on vacation?
Dan Thanks, Dan. Hope all is going well with you. Yeah, when I was a kid I wanted to move to Tin Pan Alley. RIGHT!?! About Dave, I mean. Dang, I came to that same realization some time ago. I mean, I like Slowhand Eric, Sparce-Note BB, Dotted Buddy, and Saddly-Missed Stevie, but Dave does it all. Yes, my creative brain creates many cool vacations, but it always takes me with it. [Can't say I'd rather be alone.]

Your vox fit this song sooo well and a good one it is! Blue Attitude, great job on the guitar. You sold me on the feel with every fill and the solo.
Keep this collaboration going!

Screaming guitar, mournful singing, and a nice fable. Thanks, David. Much appreciated. Thank you Marty for these beautiful images, this beautiful song and a moment of reflection. Laurent Thanks, Laurent. I'd bet your reflection mirrors an understanding soul.

Marty and Dave, another masterpiece from the dynamic duo. Great vocal, bass, guitar, and mix - as what I expect from you two. Fantastic blues - loved it. Thank you, Mario. I'd love to hear you and Bob jam those changes some Sunday, and make it your own. Great song with some spectacular Dave guitar throughout. Though I don't think I ever had a dreaming tree. From my late teens all I ever had a passion for was writing and other forms of creativity, particularly including music and art, but I never ever had a specific ambition or hope for the future. Excellent song & production...leaving lots of space for Dave to stretch was a great decision. That voice - oh yeah...always. HAHAHA. Thanks for your facecious suggestion, Ray. I was worried about that woodblock performance. Hey, very cool saying with the porridge thing. Goldilocks would love it. Yeah, those spaces and the hope that Dave would fill them was the reason to rewrite the song. He did good, huh? Hey Marty,

Alan Alan, we love you --AND Di, so you never have to say you're sorry, especially for loving someone with such passion. My studio is a 10x9 room with no windows. When we built this house (the same time you guys did) I was a little worried about claustrophobia, but the music in there (including yours) always makes it inviting. Carry on, man. You're an inspiration.
