I found a problem yesterday when using "File-Save Special- Save Song(s) to Text on Clipboard or File(s)" routine.
I did a bluegrass/rock version of Touch of Grey by the Grateful Dead. It's in the key of G with 236 measures In the song. I have drum fills at various measures and I also started fading the song at the end.
When I exported the song as a text file, it is noted in Song Summary that:
1. Song is saved with Volume, Pan, Reverb, Chorus, Bank0, 2. Song is saved with bar changes for Volume Changes
See below for the full summary.
****** Song Summary ************* Title: Touch of Grey - Grateful Dead File:Touch of Grey - Grateful Dead.SGU Key=C , Tempo 145, Length (m:s)=6:33 No intro. 236 bar chorus, from bar 1 to bar 236. Repeat x1 chorus Melody has 1974 notes, Melody harmony is < no harmony >(0) No Soloist track. Song is saved with Volume, Pan, Reverb, Chorus, Bank0, Song is saved with bar changes for Volume Changes, Style is _COVE.STY (Cove East Coast Songwriter)
When I then create a new SGU file using the previously exported text file I find the following changed from the original song I made a few days ago.
1. None of the drum fills show up in the imported song. 2. None of the ending bars starting at bar 229 are fading out as it ends even though it says in the summary that "Song is saved with bar changes for Volume Changes" 3. None of the previous Volume settings are saved even though it says in the summary that "Song is saved with Volume, Pan, Reverb, Chorus, Bank0".
To make it simple, I have placed the original SGU file, the text imported SGU file and the exported text file here so you can test it yourself.
NOTE: You may or may not have that style depending on which BIAB package you have.
I'm not sure if it makes any difference, but what Build of 2024 are you using?
BIAB & RB2026 Win.(Audiophile), Windows 10 Pro & Windows 11, Cakewalk Bandlab, Izotope Prod.Bundle, Roland RD-1000, Synthogy Ivory, Session Keys Grand S & Electric R, Kontakt, Focusrite 18i20, KetronSD2, NS40M, Pioneer Active Monitors.
Keep in mind I have never used the text import method so this is the 1st time I have seen this. What prompted me to play with this was the post a few days ago on exporting an Excel spreadsheet as a text file and them importing it into BIAB. I used the example in the post and then tried my own SGU file. That's when I noticed the volume and fading settings were not showing up on the imported song.
I agree that it is not really important, it's just an observation that does not seem right.
The documentation is very sparse on what this actually accomplishes.
"Save Song(s) to Text on Clipboard or File(s): You can copy the current song, including the chords and other information (title, key, tempo, form, style, etc.), as a text file or save it as a text file. You can also use a batch mode to apply the feature to all songs in a folder."
BIAB2026 Windows 10 Pro (Never Windows 11!) WA6NCB
I believe the hint is the Bank0 reference in the "Song is saved with Volume, Pan, Reverb, Chorus, Bank0" statement. Bank0 implies the song settings are applied to midi, not the RealTracks you have loaded.
I loaded the imported text SGU file and looked at the SGU Memo, Song Settings and Bar Settings Summary. I can confirm there are no Bar Settings.
I loaded the original text SGU file and looked at the SGU Memo, Song Settings and Bar Settings Summary again. There are drum fill and fade bar settings.

So Jim, the outcome is that this is not something that the O/P is doing incorrectly. Instead it is a bug in the program itself?

Hi guys. It's not a bug. That summary in copy/text refers to BIAB saving a SGU file. It's only information in the copy/text feature. Uncheck the memo box if that information isn't needed.
The copy/text feature isn't a suitable alternative for the SGU files where volume, pan, reverb, chorus, bank0 and other parameters are saved.
