Both are excellent and I use both repeatedly. SMP is the new kid on the block but is proving to be a contender.

A few comparisons... based on my workflow

Melodyn integrates (ARA) perfectly into Reaper for pitch correction of vocals on the fly. The more costly versions can do both monophonic and polyphonic separation of tones and therefore do a very good conversion of Audio to Midi. But Melodyne does not really do "stem separation". That is were SMP shines.

SMP is a standalone app so you have to create the individual stems and move them to your DAW. Both programs will create a Tempo map. The only difference is "work flow". Again Melodyn is already in the DAW and SMP needs you to copy and paste the map. Both work well. I use both for Tempo Maps. SMP will write .xml for pasting into MuseScore. SMP will create a Chord Chart, Melodyn does not.

Again both are highly recommended. But if you can only aford one - If you need to perform pitch correction of vocals - you need Melodyne. If not, then SMP is a more versatle tools for tearing apart a mp3 file to all its components. Get the Pro version for all the audio to midi if you intend to create new music from the pieces and parts.
