Wow, what a sound! Such a great mix arrangement and overall production - top notch! I'd like to pick out some specific parts, but really they are all such a part of each other and the entire song came out so very well. Congratulations!

Thanks, Beth, so glad you enjoyed the tune! The lyrical waves of confusion, regret and hope were fun to score. Still a heartbreaking sentiment to work with...

Call me picky but you may want to revisit the phrasing on "Haunted by" in verse 1.
e.g:
Haunted (space) by past occasions or Haunted by (space) past occasions .
Not a big deal though.

Vic

Vic, THANKS for the listen and nice review. Tried the phrasing you mentioned both ways, but decided your 2nd alternative (the one I used) fit the rhythm of the lyrics slightly better. But I can see it either way. Appreciate the notes!

Yup, everything downstream of the lyrics is pretty much me. My brother/lyricist sends me a lyric sheet and I turn it into a BiaB song and record the scratch vocals. If the song is "good enough", Dusty will record the final vocals. Then I'll produce the finished track. Took a few years in this case. "Beatlesesque" is a high complement. My lyricist thought it sounded like Tears for Fears, but I like The Beatles better. Ha! THANKS for the listen!

Nicely done. It's obviously been a long journey to get this one out, but well worth the effort.

I like the piano tone. I've had the hardest time finding the perfect piano sound for me.... and yeah, I got Rhapsody Waves piano.... you certainly make it sound good in this song.

Absolutely love the piano! And man, Dusty is such a great singer.

Everything about this sounds great, I'm a big fan of your mixes. Only thing I would do is strip some of silence from the beginning, there is 5 seconds or so before the song starts.

Good one, enjoyed very much.

Thank you, Dave! Yeah, the bar of silence at the beginning is really noticeable at 85 BPM. With all the time spent on this I shouldn't have been so lazy! Appreciate the reminder.

Great to hear from you, Dan. Some of the BiaB solo-style pianos are TOO busy, but I like how this one mixes it up. A BRITISH feel? Hmmm, well, I married a Brit, so it's more than remotely possible. Ha! Glad you could stop by!

I sometimes like a song, but can't think of anything to write about it! So this time I'll just quote Brad: "Such a great mix arrangement and overall production". cool

Brad, THANKS for the listen and the positive feedback. Almost makes me feel like I didn't waste too much time on this. ALMOST...

Herb, THANKS for the listen! I've used most of the sound sets in Waves Grand Rhapsody, but keep gravitating to the "Stereorama" set. It sits nicely in most mixes and (as you would guess) has a subtle stereo image, so I can usually leave it centered in the mix without stepping on the vocals. Will usually turn down the pedal and key noise, even though they are fun in some contexts. Have tried other piano VSTi's but nothing works as well for what I'm trying to do...

Those harmonies really "humanize" the main vocal, (sometimes he sounds a little too detached - no note bending and such mid line).
Cool mix, cool arrangement.
VERY cool song.

Ron,

I always look forward to a new one from you and your cohorts. Dusty has such a versatile voice and fabulous vocal tone. As has been mentioned by others, the piano is so perfect for enitre song aura. Very, very nicely done by all.

Ron,

I love the production choice and the lift into the chorus. Refreshing to also hear the harmony vox in V2 and beyond.

VERY cool song.

Thanks, Ray! Those harmonies do provide a nice lift. Honestly, I find it hard to critique Dusty since his vocals always sound SO much better than mine. Glad you enjoyed your "cool" listen!

Alan, THANK YOU for the listen. You're right, this song is really centered on the vocals and the piano. It was fun but challenging to find the support roles for the bass, drums and acoustic guitar, but in the end I'm pleased with the result. Appreciate you making the time despite all of your higher priority demands. All the best to you and Di, Ron

"A dark but hopeful tune contemplating the remnants of a failed relationship"
A most apt description!

It reminds us of both the Beatles and The Beach Boys (at their best) in harmony and the big full sound.

We really loved the piano and the vocals. Great arrangement and mix too.
The soundstage via our Kali monitors was excellent.

A great line of many:
“I just try to close the book
Forget what I had read
Then I take another look
To see what else you said”

Pro all the way!
