I'd say rather than have all this wisdom and experience once again be lost and forgotten in the clutter of thousands and thousands of threads, someone should capture the relevant information here in a white paper for the next time this subject gets raised . . . and you know it will.

How cool would it be to organize a comprehensive document that would capture actual experience with specific UPS manufactures and part numbers?

There is also quite a lot more to this subject than has been discussed so far. For example, we haven't addressed the basic tradeoff between lead-acid vs Li-ion battery options or how one should go about sizing the unit to meet the variety of needs musicians have. Home use/road use? Limited budget/no price barriers? What to avoid/what is reccomended? Rack mounted/desktop tower? Etc.

Heck, Gordon's great war story could even be included.
