Hello, everybody

This is my last post of the year.
It's an original Christmas song.
I usually record the rhythm section live and overlay strings and other parts with MIDI, but for this song I did the opposite, I recorded the strings live and created the other section with MIDI.
6 members were arranged for the live recording. (1st violin x 2, 2nd violin x 2, viola x 1, cello x 1)
The performers were my juniors from my university.
They were not students of a music college, so the pitch is a little bad, but please forgive them as they were not professional musicians.
I recorded this about 25 years ago.
I had the file on my old computer, so I added other instruments to it with MIDI this time.
Now I would like to introduce it to you.
Any comments encouraged.
Always welcome.

Best Regards.

Shigeki Adachi

Title: 聖夜(イヴ)の恋人たち(Translation: Young Lovers on Holy Night)
Vocal: TAKAKO (our local jazz vocalist, my friend)
Accompanied with baroque ensemble and rhythm section

Style is ST_ELMO.STY(MIDI)
Piano(1) assigned to Harpsichord played with EastWest Goliath
Fretless Bass (36) assigned to Fretles Bass played with EastWest Goliath
MIDI Drums played with EastWest Goliath
Baroque ensemble scored by me
Oboe played with EastWest Goliath
4 part strings played by the amateur orchestra

Summary of lyrics

Rushed by the snow fall
We are hurrying on the way to the station

There are many illuminated trees in the sapphire street
I see angel's white wings on your shoulder

How sweet our young love is
We are groping for our dreams awkwardly

You love me tenderly and make me so happy
Please heal me more and don’t let me feel painful
You are always so close to me
But why do I always feel so alone?

I’ll say good night to you because I can see you again tomorrow
Please hold my hands to keep them from freezing.

I want to tell you my shivering feeling
We are becoming stardust and flying in the wind

When we quietly stop and look up the stars
Clean bells sound on holy night

素晴らしい曲だ!美しいメロディーと歌詞。声が高音の方がよく聞こえるのは私だけだろうか?でもいい音色だ。オーボエも素晴らしい。ありがとう。

For those who don't practice Japanese: Wonderful song! Beautiful melody and lyrics. Is it just me, or does the voice sound better on the high notes? Nice tone though. Nice oboe too.
Thanks, my friend.

Thanks to Japan for launching the first synths: Roland, Yamaha, Korg, Technics, Akaï, among others.

Oh, it must be such fun working with those up-and-coming musicians, Shigeki. Heck, I'm sure they too are thrilled to be invited in on this good write of yours. I had to concentrate on their efforts and your master degree of Baroque writing. TYhe second time through was all Takako. She has a chillingly captivating quality in her voice. You know, like when you hear something special and feel somewhat gifted to have had the experience. She is special. The 3rd time through was for me. Just sitting back with eyes closed and a smile. The lyrics are good, but she could sing anything and I'd smile.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Hey Shigeki!

This sounds wonderful. I can't imagine the players aren't professional. Why are you apologizing! 😂

Thanks for another lovely piece of music.

Shigeki, beautiful composition, expertly scored and performed by all. Would never have guessed this started as a recorded string track. Takako has a lovely voice that seems to just float over the arrangement. Merry Christmas!

Shigeki,

This is beautiful! Takako has a lovely voice - perfect for this song.

Your string arrangements are always so beautiful and full. Your live musicians did a fantastic job. And your arranging is always so very good.

A perfect song - a perfect performance.

EXCELLENT.
Could be a song from a long lost classic Anime movie.
25 year old string recordings? Wow, those junior students are middle aged now.
The midi work is fabulous and the vocal is GORGEOUS.
Thanks for the moments of pleasure.

Cheers

I love your songs because they speak to my heart. They are full of nostalgia, very well written and well orchestrated. The intro is a little gem.

A perfect Xmas song. I love the strings and vocals. I could imagine gentle snow falling - a sort of Shiggy-stardust snow!
PS: I only just read the lyrics so I hadn't seen that you use 'stardust' in them when I wrote the above!

Hello Paul,

Thank you very much for taking the time to listen and comment in Japanese.
I was surprised at how natural your Japanese was, and I wonder if you had been studying Japanese.
I am really glad you like this tune and my arrangement.

Shigeki, those strings sound like they were played by professionals.
Great arrangement.
Super vocal.
Great mix.
This is an excellent song.

I arrived early to a restaurant.
The manager asks, "do you mind waiting a bit?"
I said no.
"Good", he said. "Take these drinks to table 3"

Shigeki,

Lovely tune . . . really captures a Christmas sound . . . but very original and distinctive . . . When I hear songs like this, it makes me wish I could understand the language that it is sung in . . . so as to get the full effect. But just really pretty to hear. Well done!!
