This is probably the third song I ever wrote back in 2010 or 2011. It was first produced by by a friend of mine who was a sound engineer for a Canadian studio. I liked it at the time but later I thought it was a little over produced with effects. This is my new version with my recently acquired Cubase DAW which I'm still struggling with. It seems to be fighting me. https://soundcloud.com/vic-arnold/pages-vs2?si=e4ce5c3aba08446ca658a405042ef41e&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharingPAGES © Vic Arnold 2010 Remembering before we met your smile lit up the stage that I stood on. Dazzled by the glow I smiled back without knowing who I smiled upon, But somewhere, somehow in that darkened room I saw the light that shone my way, And afterwards I took your hand and we ran off to where our future lay. Memories of what is done. More of life behind us now than what has yet to come. These faded photographs, like autumn leaves, Of people soon forgotten who hide between the pages of our dreams. (instrumental) See that nice house on the hill? Can it be the same one we moved in? Remember how it used to be before we made it home for us back then? Then we'd watch the children grow. It seemed like only yesterday. And now you smile and close your eyes, I hold your hand and feel you slip away. Memories of what is done. More of life behind us now than what has yet to come. These faded photographs, like autumn leaves, Of people soon forgotten who hide between the pages of our dreams.

Vic, achingly poignant song, and very nicely sung. Love the acoustic backing band, and your new mix sounds about right to my ears. I'd dial back the FX on the vocals a bit, as they blur over the nice quality of your vocals, and I'd push the harmony a little further back in the mix. Just because I think your lead vocals are strong enough to stand on their own, and I'd like the lyrics to stand out more. Or discard this note entirely. Love the song either way. Any BiaB tracks in here? The strings sound familiar but I couldn't pick anything else out. Great tune!

Thanks D.C. I find that recording and editing vocals in Cubase quite complicated. Some times I alter one line and it affects another line. I will persevere. Thanks for your suggs. I have done what you said.

A mixture of Johnny Cash and Nick Cave, vocally-speaking, I thought.
The song is beyond excellent. It really is extraordinary writing. One of the best (whatever that word may mean) songs I've ever heard on this forum. A notch or two (million) above many.
Keep writing and singing, sir.

Lovely song, Vic, really well written.
Love your vocal, could be a bit more upfront for my tastes though, hard to make out the words without reading along.

Vic,
A pretty impressive 3rd write. Nice backing. The reverb on the vocal needs to be dialed back some.
Good stuff.

Ah, nice, Vic. The pages are turning and the book is very thick, and hopfully many more chapters yet to read. Especially if the book is as enjoyable as this song. I like the production a lot. Great use of the guitar responses. At first I thought the vocal was a bit to reverby or something, but the song grew on me. It was really so good that the vocal sounded fine by the second verse. If you like it there, I love it.

Thank you Dave. I’m still learning the new DAW. I increased the vocal slightly and dialled back the reverb. I think it’s better now than before.

Beautiful song, good storytelling and great lyrics. Your backing tracks sound okay, but your vocals are still drowned in reverb. Try less, and/or use a less intrusive reverb. You have a good voice, so there's absolutely no reason to hide it

The reverb delay on the vocal - particularly in V1 are OTT and reinforces the sibilant stuff. Cool song, good arrangement, though the synth strings could use a swap.

Thanks Marty. This new set of effects are bugging me but I will eventually get the hang of it.
