Hi,
Can anyone explain the difference between,
Wav Instructions & Files
Wav Instructions
Wav Files

can't seem to find any info on PGMusic's site.

Would be good if PGMusic put together a detailed tutorial on the latest VST3 Plugin.

Thanks,
Brian

Wave instructions can be compared to midi instructions. Both are instructions that tell something what to do. However, WAV instructions can be used only with PG Music RealTracks audio. Thus the idea of WAV instructions is proprietary to PG Music while midi instructions are a universal standard.

Midi instructions is data that directs a midi instrument patch what to play. The sound you hear is generated in real time by a midi instrument patch.

PG Music RealTracks are prerecorded audio files. The Band-in-a-Box program generates WAV instructions that is data that tells Band-in-a-Box, RealBand or the Band-in-a-Box Plugin how to select, use and manage RealTrack audio. A very rough example of a Band-in-a-Box generated WAV instruction is: the audio in "ABC" RealTrack is a "Gmaj7" chord that starts here in the audio file and ends here in the audio file.

Whichever PG Music program you're using, Band-in-a-Box, RealBand or the Plugin, uses Band-in-a-Box generated WAV instructions to select, use or manage RealTrack audio.

Rendering a RealTrack tells whichever program to follow the WAV instructions to create a new audio file.

Until recently RealBand or the Band-in-a-Box Plugin had to wait for the main Band-in-a-Box program to render a RealTrack before the RealTrack could be managed by either program.

Now both RealBand and the Band-in-a-Box Plugin can read and understand WAV instructions so the wait time for Band-in-a-Box to render a RealTrack is eliminated. Both RealBand and the Band-in-a-Box Plugin can now directly access the original RealTrack audio files stored on an external or internal drive so any changes you make to a chord sheet doesn't take as long to implement.

One way to gain a better appreciation for WAV instructions is to investigate how UserTracks are created.

Wav Instructions & Files Creates a text of all sections to be played from source files and it will also render the data to a physical wav file
Wav Instructions
Wav Files

This is wav instructions use by Plugin and Reaper, so it will say what file to play, what section of it to play by start in source, length in source, transpose amount and play rate, position to be placed in track, etc.. This allows the Plugin to play those sections direct from disk same as Reaper. so you are not making a cup of coffee while wav files are being rendered first.

FILE "E:\bb\RealTracks\Bass, Electric, BritInvasion Ev 120\bs1682.wav"
>
>
<ITEM

POSITION 5.79625
SNAPOFFS 0
LENGTH 6.26792
BEAT 1
SOFFS 72.0391666666667
PLAYRATE 1 1 -2 -1 0 0
IMPLIED WARP 1
FADEIN 1 0 0 1 0 0 0
FADEOUT 1 0 0 1 0 0
MIXFLAG 1
<SOURCE VIDEO

"Would be good if PGMusic put together a detailed tutorial on the latest VST3 Plugin." +1 much needed as most don't know what it's all about and the quantum leap benefits it gives.

RealBand still renders the WAV instructions to .WAV, but for 2025 it uses multiple threads, so this is faster than it used to be.
