I thought you could put a lower case o but that does not seem to work in my Band-in-a-Box® for Windows
Version 2022 (927)
64 bit application

Billy,
With Midi you obviously can, I believe what PGM calls Playable real tracks you sort of can:

With real tracks it's tricky. If (and that's a big if) musicians recorded higher or lower ranges you don't have a way to manually select it. You have to do whole bunch of partial regenerations just to find out.

Thanks,
I am trying to learn how to do more things in BB. In the past I would normally just do this in my DAW.
Real Tracks has many limitations that can be overcome by a lot of tedious work in a DAW.

Billy,
Partial regeneration in Track view using Ctrl-F8 is your friend. I've made couple of videos, but forgot where they are.
I will try to do a short one for you later today.

can you select a single cell?

Interesting question. I never tried, because it's likely the voice leading wouldn't work well. It certainly would not if you were searching for octave jumps. In addition to RustySpoon's ideas, I suppose you could painstakingly alter the audio with Melodyne Editor in a DAW. Maybe someone has even tried this recently using the VST3 support in BIAB.

I have altered real tracks in my DAW in the past. I don't remember the results.

I think I came to the conclusion that I could create a BIAB song but I could not create one of my songs in BIAB. Some things could done using midi tracks but not real tracks.

Analog can be converted to midi but not without a bunch of issues to solve.

I really mean can I regenerate a single cell? I assume yes without having tried.

Billy

Yes it can be done. By a "single cell," do you mean (a) the full bar or (b) half the bar (if you consider a bar is made up of two cells).

For (a), the full bar can be selected on the chord sheet and generated.

For (b) half a bar can be selected and generated in Audio Edit. (See the image below.)

1) Select the track to be edited (#3 on the image).
2) Activate "Snap" (#2)
3) Drag across the region in which you want to do a partial regeneration (#3).
4) Select "Edit" (#4) and click on "Generate" (#5).
5) Click on "Select and generate Realtracks" (#6) and then select the appropriate Realtrack.

I've found that the best results are usually obtained by generating a whole bar, or two or three of bars. CTRL+Z undoes any changes so if you don't like a generation, a simple 'undo' will take you back to what you had.

Thanks Noel

Between you and Misha, hope I spelled his name right, and Matt I get it done.

Regenerating things has never had much appeal to me to begin with. Sometimes things get better but it rarely does what I am looking for.

Sometimes I can put a slash chord in and get results.

What generally happens is I play a chord progression out on my piano and put those chords in BB. Most of the time they are in the root inversion. First and second inversion at other times.

I have been away from all this for a while and I am now playing catch-up.

Billy,
2022 version is a bit different. You need to spend a few pesos to get yourself to 2025.

Check the video out:

Yes, that does not surprise me. I have upgraded several things in the last couple of days.

I just was able to use slash chords and get things to sound better. Also, turn on the mixer and mute all but one track to sort things out.

I have come from a live background where all I have to do is tell the bass player for example please play the fifth on the 23 measure...lol All this electronic music creation has come at a time when I am older and takes longer to learn new things plus the issues with memory cause more problems.

Just stuff one has to deal with as they get older. No big deal.
