Hi forum members Hoping I may get some help here. I have an Allen and Heath Z10fx mixer I use for hobby and occasional gigs. Using a Strat, I just play instrumentals with Band in a box backing tracks. I am also pretty deaf in the right ear and have just bought a Shure in ear monitor. I can plug this into the headphones jack in the mixer which even though my right ear is compromised, I still get sound from both buds. A better option would be to use the aux out on the mixer and then I could control the volume of either the guitar and tracks individually, without effecting the mix from my JBL powered speaker out front. However the signal only comes in on the left bud which is ok but not as comfortable as the phone Jack option. For those in tech world the manual describes the Aux output as follows…. Output Effects & Aux bus Outputs Standard 1/4” (6.25mm) jack sockets wired: Tip=hot, Ring=cold, Sleeve=Chassis. 0dBu. The FX out is the Effects bus output, and can be used for connecting to external equipment such as an effects processor. OR a latching footswitch can be connected (wired between Tip & Sleeve) and used to mute the on-board FX. The AUX out is taken from after the AUX MIX master level control. Level control AUX send Controls the level of signal sent to the Auxiliary output from the channel. The signal is sourced pre-Level so is independent of the level being sent to the main L-R Mix. The send control has +6dB gain fully clockwise and unlike the FX bus, there is a master level control for the Aux output.
Is there any way I can get a signal in both buds from this output. I have tried connecting a Beringer powered earphone amp but no difference in the sound. Appreciate any thoughts Best wishes.

In my mixer, AUX is mono, so a L/R mix would have to be created in the mixer, sent out2 separate channels (as L&R) to two AUX channels, then somehow combined back to stereo for the headphones. We do that last part by sending multiple MONO AUX channels (or Subgroup would work too) to the audio interface, then routing that to a headphone distribution/amplifier .. so a little involved. That's how we do it here at least.

If the aux out is mono as described, an adapter like this would split it into two channels for a headphone. But it would be a mono signal.

Thanks Ron, I was hoping that may be an answer and will hopefully be able to buy one here which I am not real confident about but will get one online in not. Mono signal is fine. 🙂 Thanks for that

Mono signal is fine. 🙂 Thanks for that Hope it works out! About 20 years ago I went to Radio Shack (now gone) and bought over a dozen of the various in/out adapters for 1/4 and RCA jacks. Keep them in a ziplock next to the mixer, and they still come in handy every now and then. Good luck!

I’m really a bit old to know much about this but somehow I’ve been able to route the Aux mix to the headphones. I have volume control on each channel and getting both sides of the ear buds working. Happy Chappy. Thanks for the inputs.
