She Runs Away

Not much of a song, but I wanted to create something. A character sketch without a shred of optimism.

Style MAIZE but I replaced the guitar soloist.

When the morning doubt sets in her eyes
When the darkness is no longer a surprise
When she empties her alibis
She runs away

When she’s wading through all of his lies
When she begins to epitomize
The cinematic lover with tortured eyes
She runs away

Tea and cake and a bit of gin
The king’s horses, the king’s men
Who going to put her back together again

When there’s no gravity left to defy
No more accusations for her to deny
When her dreams bleed, wither, and die
She runs away

Hi, Scott. Well then, this won't be much of a comment. Wow, love the lyrics (still I see a bit of optimism --maybe she runs to something so much better). Very cool choice on the drums --the whole band. Good choice of the soloist, too. You know I'm a beg fan of your vocals. The bridge is terrific. Excellent dynamics.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Definitely not an uplifting song so you met your objective...but there are times we all want and need to hear and feel songs like this. Thanks for sharing, Scott!

The guitars go very well with the song which sounds very good. It's airy and varied: it works.

For not being much of a song, it's pretty much for a song.
I like it, and I don't even think it's too pessimistic, it is rather melancholy.
Well sung, well produced.
Nothing not to like smile

Scott, super song, really well sung. Nice choices on the band. The solo guitar and drums are especially nice. Cool when the soloist sounds like he's actually listening to the song.

Sadness is part of life, though thankfully not the only part. So I think sad songs are better than fine, and like this one a lot. smile

Love the instrumentation in this, particularly the guitars and the toms.

Hi Scott.

Kudos to you on writing, arranging, performing and producing such a great song.
It sounds as professional anything I've heard.
There were a couple of things that really appealed to me.
One... The use of list items based on "when" lyrics was a stroke of genius smile
Two... I'm a huge fan of AABA format and I love the way you've used the asymmetry of the AAAX rhyme scheme.
I really enjoyed listening to this a great deal.

Excellent lyric and arrangement.
I would think a harmony would go well with the "She Runs Away" part and give it more emphasis.

Scott,

A very interesting lyric.
Good production.
Good vocals. Clear, crisp.
Good mix.

Sometimes I wasn't sure what she was running for or from. But I enjoyed trying to figure it out.

Marty, I like your positivity. Thanks about the vocals. I don't care much for them.

Thanks, Dewey. I admit that about 80 percent of my songs are not uplifting.

Thanks, Ron. I did a lot of solo generation until I got the part that I wanted.

Thanks, Vic. I had harmony on the part you suggested and also on the third line of each verse; however, I didn't like my vocal, so I rerecorded it (as you hear it now) and never got back to the harmony. I will probably go back and add it plus re-sing some of the parts that I am still not happy with.

Scott,

Interesting lyric with a bit od mystery in it. You chose a very good band - maybe give them a small raise for the great work??!! Strong vocal! pretty dang good for "not much of a song".

Merry Christmas.

Interesting combination, a dark story with a light pop arrangement and then the nice bridge part which reminds me of early Genesis. Picturesque lines like "morning doubt sets in her eyes" and "no gravity left to defy".

Your laidback vocals fit perfectly with the mood. That Brent solo is well chosen, not too dominating, but still feels like the backbone of the song. Your 'not much of a song' is of course much better than the average songs by a contemporary hit artist.
