Great write and a classic 80s feel.

Thanks, glad you liked the tune! Those are my favorite lines, too. When I write music from set lyrics, one of the first things I often do is find the "center" of the song lyrically and write "inside out" from there. And for this song, those lines were the "center".

Man, the 80s were a good time, and if we brought back that feel, I feel like our job is done here. Ha!

"It’s all sapphire and denim blue jeans/A cyan crayon and aquamarine" - a song full of lovely colors, although my favorite blues are navy, indigo and turquoise laugh

Once again lovely pop song, catchy and clever, and the forementioned lyrical section has lovely chording. Maybe silly, but full of joy.

Great singing with excellent backing vocals, great band, great mix. Definitely sounds like written by RI (Real Intelligence) smile

B.D., Ha! Of late I'm writing most music on an electric guitar that is usually chugging the changes. So the BiaB guitars that approximate that chugging sound really appeal to me.

Not "ashamed" as much as "self aware" that silly love songs are perhaps not the highest form of the songwriting craft. But they ARE a lot of fun!

THANKS for the listen!

Super lyric and outstanding arrangement. Your production skills really shine in this one. I particularly enjoyed those tom rolls between some of the lines - sneaky, inobtrusive, and a treat. The chorus was the perfect choice for further expanding the soundstage.

Everything sits perfectly in an excellent mix and production.

Merry Christmas.

Alan

Alan, THANKS for the kind review. Yep, Dusty really nailed this one for sure. Funny to me how 90% of an arrangement and mix will come together in the first 10% of the time, and that last 10% takes...well, as long as it takes. At any rate, glad you liked it!

Merry Christmas to you and Di!

Thanks, Rob! I like how a Google search of "cyan crayon lyric" points to this song. Such a cool line. Wish I had the talent to do that...

Blue-eyed Janne

Janne, THANKS for the listen and the nice review. The chords entered in BiaB for the color section include FMaj7 and Cmaj7 (in the key of G), which represent the dream the narrator is chasing. For some reason those chords have a haunting, dreamy quality that I like a lot. I like the term "RI" a lot, and may recycle it. smile

Man, This sounds great to me DC!

Love it. A great love song but not silly to me, just really, really good.

Also, do me a favor and stay away from AI. You don't need it. Just keep being yourself. Trust me. If you start using AI I will probably not say that was wonderful DC and will more than likely think, but not say, well that sucks. Which is not the kind of thing you want to say at Christmas to a friend.

smile

Great job here.

Hi Ron,

It's funny you often start introducing your songs as ordinary, simple, or -here- silly, while you just make good songs!
And I also hear everytime improvements on sound, vocals, etc. I love that!
It means we can enjoy more good songs in the nearby future from your hand.

This song, okay, it's a silly song, has really good/bright vocals, upfront and never become silly.
Somewhere after the first half, say the bridge, the dynamics of the song seemed to drop a bit (I hope you understand what I mean)
Fortunately, then the chorus started (again). Great!
And very clever lyrics (AI?)

Hans

Hans, THANK YOU for the listen and encouragement. Yes, the bridge drops the dynamic level for a few measures before the final chorus adds a 2nd harmony line to send the dynamics back over the top. It's a cool effect. Nope, no AI anywhere here, or ever. The lyrics sprang from the creative mind of my brother in 1983. Back then, the only artificial intelligence was Reaganomics. Ha! Glad you enjoyed the tune.

Hi, Ron.

What they said - bouncy pop, fun listen. An earworm, too! smile

It’s all sapphire and denim blue jeans

Yep, that's a great line.

It’s a very sweet love song.
One that had Janice dancing and singing along immediately.

The vocals (cool ooh’s), band, lyric, etc. all are very enjoyable
A delightfully good vibe song for the holidays.

We much enjoyed it!
Happy holidays,

Great job here.

David, THANK YOU for the nice review. I should add that I'm still using the rear channel bus tip that you brought to my attention a few months ago. Have also been experimenting with using a compressor sidechain to duck the vocal FX and provide crisper vocals without losing ambience. Never done tinkering with sound it seems...

I can think of a dozen ways AI could help my BiaB workflow. But the way it sits now, the only things AI can do in music creation are things I enjoy doing myself or think I can do better with human help. That may not last. Heck, I remember when Etch A Sketch and Spirograph were cutting edge creative tools. Tech has come a long ways, and isn't close to slowing down...

Anyway, happy to know that you think this song doesn't suck, and that even if you thought it DID suck, you wouldn't say it to a friend at Christmas.

I'm sticking with it doesn't suck. Ha!

Merry Christmas!

Ron,
Well-crafted and produced song! No defense of any part of this is needed! It's catchy and memorable! I'm sure Sir Paul doesn't sit around and concern himself with the lame criticism of his wings hit! You produce great stuff and it seems to be getting better all the time!
Thanks, TB
