Say I am working in my DAW finalizing a track, and decide that I want 8 bars of percussion for the second chorus, or maybe a quick 4 bar interlude with some sax licks, is there a way to generate and export/render just those bars (preferably via the Drag + Drop utility or by enabling DAW mode) the same way you can copy- paste or move those bars to another track within BiaB?

It seems like this should definitely be possible, but I scoured the manual and did a deep dive on various menus and submenus, and I can't find a way to do it....

You can highlight bars in the chord sheet then drag that instrument out to a folder or DAW, or to DROP.
You can also export the wav instructions for those bars to Reaper.

I thought this was the case, and 90 percent certain I have done this multiple times in the past, I could not manage to do it in BB 2025 the way I seem to remember. Maybe I was selecting it from the wrong place?

P.S. I won't be at my computer for the next few hours, so I'll have to try again later...

P.P.S. What do you mean by WAV instructions? I saw this option in the plugin as well... does this refer to key and tempo info akin to ACIDize?

WAV Instructions is just telling the Plugin or Reaper to play files or sections of files direct from the source folder without having to render to wav.

Thanks Musocity,

TBH, I would be happy to work entirely in Reaper using the BiaB plugin, but all the options are way too confusing me without having an updated user guide as we do with BiaB and RB. The new features added in the 2025 version were the main reason I updated, but there are no instructions on how to actually use them.

Despite that, I'd generally be happy to spend some hours trying to figure it out on my own, but every time I try and generate something, it devours another couple of GBs from my already cramped C/ drive. And yes, I have all directories in the preferences set to D,-except that it still manages to save stuff to my C/bb/BB plugin (I think that's what it is,...not at my PC now so can't verify until later.) Regardless, using the plugin somehow sucks more space out of my C drive than the amount of data it saves into in the aforementioned folder, so even if I delete everything in that folder, it still costs me space each time I use the plugin.

Fact is that I'm dying to test out all these scripts and stuff, but everything I install, and nearly every script I run in Reaper, seems to leave something somewhere in my C drive. I'm down to my last 20 GBs on my C/ drive and I can't afford to give up an inch of it or my PC will stop operating properly. (Yes, I know, I need to get a new, larger drive,...)

That is the problem I had with the Plugin, filling up the hard drive with wav files, but that's all changed now with the latest version, just use wav instructions:

Reaper won't fill up hard drive unless you check the Copy all media box in the Reaper Save dialog. Don't select copy or move as it will just save the wav instructions only and the Reaper project file will be tiny.

Unrelated follow-up question; in the GIF, the tracks/time selections you import from the SGU seem to be automatically segmented into discrete items complete with stretch markers upon import. Am I interpreting that correctly?
Yes, this is how it works, you can fine tune the riffs this way by making the items longer or shorter, you can't do this with a consolidated wav file.
The stretch markers allow you to change the tempo in Reaper and the tracks will follow or you may have a varying tempo map.


P.S. Not marking this as resolved yet, as I'm still interested to know about how to go about rendering and exporting a time selection from within the main program...

It won't fill the C: drive up as it reads and plays the wav instructions direct from E: drive.

Generate up your song in Biab, freeze all the tracks and Save.
Run the "Script: Import frozen SGU MGU realtracks drums tracks GUI.lua" in Reaper, open the frozen SGU, Import Chords if needed, Reload Tracks.
So I just erase the original soloist track in Biab then just generate up the section/Bars I need, save track frozen as before, then Reload Tracks in Reaper GUI and insert in selected track.

But won't there be other ramifications to unchecking the Copy all media box, such as it not saving other parts of audio I am adding from outside sources or rendering post FX?

What if I import a project as per your directions, but then want to add a new segment, such as a bridge, or just a single RT or RD at a given time selection? Do I have to go back into BiaB, do the changes/additions there, and then reimport the whole thing? What happens to the regions with the chords if I add something new or delete some measures? Does it ripple edit them?

If you keep copying media with your Reaper projects the 20gig will run out soon. If you add wav or mp3 etc.. to your Reaper project, add it from the project folder so you will have it stored. Those and any other renders will be referenced in the project folder.
The whole idea of all this is so you don't have a hard drive full of wav files that Biab and BB Plugin made !!!

You just add sections the same way you normally did using wav renders from Biab, it's just so easy doing all this in Reaper, you can insert/remove bars in Reaper, you can insert new regions, you can copy track sections along with the regions. You can copy track sections from one Tab to another.

You can also work with Biab & RealBand using the ReWireVST Biab-rewire-control-GUI.zip
You can play a newly generated section/track soloed in Biab along to the tracks in the DAW to see if it fits before transferring:

RealBand also, if you don't want a massive amount of wav files stored in the RealBand project it can just use non destructive editing in the DAW and save as wav instructions only using wma, flac, wav:

As for doing it from RB, it already has exactly the function I'm looking for right from the main page as shown in the screenshot (Export Selection)

You can just highlight the section and drag track number to WAV DROP though you are still creating wav files where as if you do it from Biab it will just be data.

Thanks, but again, this is still in RB.

I don't understand why they don't have an option in the Drag and Drop station for working with a selection rather than the whole track. I suppose I should post this in the BiaB Wishlist forum...
