I assume there is no reason to put any native Instruments software on the C: drive.
I think I wrongly assumed in the past that it would operate faster there.
I have been able to move everything but Kontakt has some path issues I have to solve to remove it.
NI is a bit of a pain to delete and reinstall even on a fast network connection.

If it's any help, I have a folder on another drive: F:/NI_Content and I have probably all of the libraries and instruments installed there. I moved them there and there's some mechanism within their Native_Access to find them in their new location. I can't remember the exact mechanism, but it's either moderately intuitive or a web/NI search will find it.

Like Gordon I have the Kontakt program on the C drive and all of the patches on the D drive. As Gordon said Native_Access had a function to locate said patches.
When you are at the checkout line and they ask if you found everything say "Why, are you hiding stuff?"
64 bit Win 10 Pro, the latest BiaB/RB, Roland Octa-Capture audio interface, a ton of software/hardware

This new version of Native Access is causing some inconvenience due to its path issues. It often claims the path is invalid, even when the correct folders are clearly visible. This means you have to go through the hassle of reinstalling the software.
Progress is being made, albeit at a slow pace. Thankfully, my internet connection is back up to one gig most of the time. A technician is scheduled to come after lunch, but it's unlikely he'll be able to fix anything at my house, as there's nothing wrong here. The frustrating part with Comcast is that their repair guys in India lack access to the necessary tools, all of which are AI-generated. I had a pleasant conversation with a support agent from India last night, but he was even restricted from providing me with an IP address to ping in India. It's clear that Comcast doesn't expect its customers to have any technical knowledge.

This new version of Native Access is causing some inconvenience due to its path issues. It often claims the path is invalid, even when the correct folders are clearly visible. This means you have to go through the hassle of reinstalling the software. Not necessarily. Look inside the named folder and see if there's another folder of the same name. If so, that is the correct folder. I found about 20 such folders during a recent move of my Kontakt/Komplete libraries.

Actually, Mike, it is only Kontakt I am having any issue with. I got most of it under control by manually typing in the path name Kontakt was looking for. All the rest of my Native Instruments software loaded without issue with Native Access.
I can say even with a one-gig internet download speed, the NI server is pretty slow. There always seems to be a bottleneck somewhere you can not buy your way out of.
I still have a little cleanup to do, but I have been busy with this new IK Multi Media Hammond B3X + Leslie Collection software implementation. It took me hours to figure out why the software would not learn the slider/switch info. The keyboard controller had to be set to Preset instead of Inst. New skill sets always present issues.

Native Access is going to install its programs and libraries to the locations you specify. After installation, you can move the sound libraries to another location by copying them there and deleting from the original location. When you run Native Access again, it will know the sound content isn't there anymore and will give you the option to "locate" the sounds. Select the new folder and it should re-authorize the sounds and know to use them at the new location. Keep in mind that Native Access will install to multiple places. The applications themselves (Kontakt Guitar Rig, Absynth, etc) will install to c:\Program Files (as do most programs). You can also specify where you want the associated VST2 files, and also where you want your associated sound libraries. My configuration is: - c:\Program Files\Native Instruments <-- location of main application
- c:\ProgramData\Native Instruments <-- miscellaneous files, looks to be mainly installation logs
- c:\Users\yourname\AppData\Local\AppName <-- cache files
- c:\Users\yourname\AppData\Roaming\Native Instruments\Native Access <-- various files related to Native Access
- c:\Apps\VST\64-bit\Native Instruments and c:\Apps\VST\32-bit\Native Instruments <-- location of VST2 files
- z:\Sounds\Native Instruments <-- all my Native Instrument sound libraries
- z:\Sounds\Kontakt Libraries <-- location of my 3rd party Kontakt libraries
While I really like the NI libraries, the one thing I don't like is that you can't download the individual installers (well, there's a way, but it's tricky and takes a long time). You have to download from their website every time using Native Access. That means a lot of bandwidth used when I rebuild my computer every so often. I have found that if I keep a full backup of the libraries, Native Access will allow me to use the "Locate" feature to re-establish the link between the programs and the libraries, but it doesn't work for all of them and I still have to download a bunch when I re-install. Hopefully that helps some.

Since the libraries are huge.... I like to install them on the data drives as opposed to the C drive.
The samples are going to be loaded to memory for use so it really doesn't matter where they are located. As long as your computer has sufficient power and memory, that's all that's really important.
I do the same thing with BB. I run it from the hard drive and only install the minimum on the C drive.
I store my current working project files on the C drive but periodically throughout the year I back them up, and at the end of each year, I move those folders to the data drive and make copies on a second data drive.
You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.comAdd nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both. The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.
