Happy New Year everyone!
Not a sad or serious or happy song in the outlaw country style that I would appreciate your comments on.
Real Tracks used:
Drums - Nashville Outlaw
Bass - 1693
Guitars - 4034, 4036, 4037, 4056

Don't let the buzzards grind you down.
© 2025 Vic Arnold
V1
Always been a nature lover.
I feed the wild life when it's cold.
I'm just wary of the buzzards
watching ducklings cross the road.
V2
There's a bear up in the mountains.
He gets lonesome now and then.
Comes to see me when he's hungry.
Buzzards never bother him.
Ch.
When you're trying to stand your ground
don't drag that heavy load around.
Forbid your face to wear a frown.
Paint on the wide smile of a clown.
Don't let the buzzards grind you down.
V3
Took a trip to Yellowstone.
Would have stayed there if I could.
With the buffalo to roam.
Picking daisies for my food.
V4
But I got married back this spring.
Seemed like a good plan at the time.
Blew my last nickels on the ring.
Then she ran off with my last dime.
Ch.
When you're laughed at in the town
and all your colours turn to brown.
Forbid your face to wear a frown.
Paint on the wide smile of a clown.
Don't let the buzzards grind you down.

Vic,

Great song. Love the instrumentation and your delivery.

I think your vocal could benefit from coming up a bit in the mix - it's hard to hear you in some spots.

That's an easy fix though for an excellent song.

Bob, cool song, and that Outlaw band sounds great. Like your vocals a lot on this one. The vocal levels sound ok to me maybe you've already brought them up per Bob's suggestion. SOME people would quibble about referring to the large mammals at Yellowstone as "buffalo" instead of "bison". But "buffalo" is much more poetic, what with the "home where the buffalo roam" reference and all, so I'd stick with the tried and true "buffalo". Nice start to 2025!

Happy New Year, Vic. Yep those buzzards are circling overhead. Vocal sounds perfect now. Fun changes and a peppy tune to outrun those buzzards.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Cheers DC.
Yes, I upped the vocal a tad after Bob's suggestion.
Buffalo or Bison? Depending what you're brought up on.
Give me a home where the bison-o roam.

Awesome use of the RealTracks Vic,
Love the rhythmic changeup in the chorus/lead break!
This style really suits your voice very well!
You did a mighty fine job on this Waylon/Willie/Johnny sounding tune!
Thanks, TB

Hi, Vic.

Good write and backing. The lyrics on the first verse were a bit hard to make out, but things cleared up after that.

Love the way the rhythm kicks in on the chorus.

Works for me! smile

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Thank you Torrey.
I wasn’t sure if that drumbeat change was too much or not.
Nice to know.
