ok thanks... now things make sense.

its just the steiny driver threw me cos any interface ive owned including my current audient its name appears in win and bb and rb.
so essentially the steiny asio driver is a 'surrogate'...right...?
i see also harbinger is mentioned in rb tracks view....good.
(here my audient shows up on every track in rb tracks view.)

next steps....

Maticulous.

1..normally these days a little desktop app comes with any audio interface...for example i can change buffer sizes by going to a desktop audient app....SO..
do you have such an app where you can change buffer sizes ??

Yes I do, I set it to 48,000 Hz DVD quality in windows, but I'd have to search for it again.

2..lets see what your pc is capable of...maticulous...and its a rough guide. please in rb menus go to ACTION>>TEST AUDIO PERFORMANCE and post back the number of tracks.
for example here i get over 300 tracks BUT i halve it as i take a conservative approach and want to keep some things in reserve.
anyway i use max up to 40 tracks in any song i do.

655 mono tracks so ~327 by comparison.

3..also could you post back how looong your pc boots into windows and bb and rb from cold. as a guide here just a few secs for win boot.
and rb/bb around 4 or 5 secs from clicking on the icons.

This is the fastest PC I've owned so far, purchased for that reason. Windows opens very quickly just from recollection, RB opens in 1 sec from clicking enter, BB just under 1 sec. I've worked from my laptop ~80% of the time so the PC has sat idle quite a bit since purchased and isn't loaded with a lot of extra curricular apps.

i assume you can now record in rb/bb right.

This is correct. My PC will be used primarily for transcribing and editing background tracks. I purchased a new laptop a few days ago because my newest workhorse is a 12+ yr old i7 showing its age. I purchased a Samsung Galaxy Book 4 Ultra pro 16" and that was going to be my music center and everything else for a long time.

Unfortunately I somehow missed the full scope of the negative reviews posted on Bestbuy and a follow-up check plus a google search after placing the order yielded a reddit thread of owners applauding the performance and the beauty of the OLED screen, which at any moment could crack for seemingly no reason, simply opening the laptop was enough particularly on the larger size screens. The thing was $1400 on sale. I met the UPS driver at the truck, put the unopened laptop in the car and took it straight back to Bestbuy for a refund. I'll wait a little longer for something as fast or faster than the i7 Ultra Evo chipset it had for a lot less. Feels so much better knowing that money is coming back to me.

now i'm off to have my nightly kip.

happiness.

om
