I GOT IT! Not sure if it was restarting the computer, or the update that lead to the restart but it's working both ways in both applications now. I appreciate the patience and the effort from those not on the payroll at PGM pointing me in the right direction to resolve the issue. I'm looking forward to the application of sound modulation and tuning applied to my own efforts that I've admired in the performances I've observed from others.

I'm still going to bug PGM about it to get their take on the matter.

Rharv.

there are a couple of things troubling me....
1..in rb driver info it says steinberg ! huh ?
whats up with that when he is useing a harbinger 2x2 ??
2..input ports say realtek !
this would imply use of on board sound right ?
i would expect it to say harbinger in input ports.
for example my audient interface here is stated for input and output ports....and same for driver info ! all copacetic.

Maticulus.

just a couple of points....need clarifying...

1..normally with a usb mixer... recordists plug a microphone into a mic input of the mixer. i'm assuming your doing this and not useing a mic plugged directly into the pc itself ?? please clarify.
2..see my points above to rharv.
in summary...if i were useing a usb mixer all i/o would use the mixer
not on board sound.
3..i need you to do something...
please post back a pic of rb tracks view.
youll notice that on the left of the tracks view are all the track names...
AND IMPORTANTLY the audio device being used.
for example here i use a audient usb audio interface...THUS...
in the track names audient is indicated as being used on each track.
SO...i would expect your harbinger to be listed on each track as the device being used.
4..if you contact pg support be sure to provide links to your uploaded pics in this thread.

just trying to be thorough.
thanks.

I was not able to get the buffer error to go away without selecting a different driver than general. Steinberg is what worked, it is associated with the Dorico Pro 5 program that I have. Then there's the other info regarding the discontinued Win 11 support for the GS driver.

2..input ports say realtek !

I saw that and am no less at odds. I mentioned that although I can not see all of the certifying info in that window, when I go into windows setup and turn off the mixer by hand, both of those drivers disappear indicating to me that both input and output drivers represent the mixer. I entered the mixer name to the driver ID in windows setup, but at different times so you may see a name change in the same location in different screen shots of the same window.

Maticulus.

I'm plugged into the mixer, note the picture I posted above, audio in and out are all through the mixer.

2..see my points above to rharv.
in summary...if i were useing a usb mixer all i/o would use the mixer
not on board sound.
That is my intent, however, I am not seeing prompts that allow me to definitively make the changes I've been trying to make, for example, the preferences screenshot posted above for RB, #6MIDI, there is no input driver for that screen and the output driver reads GS Wavetable. That doesn't make sense to me when Audio under the same subtopic reads what it reads. I don't see where I can go in and manually change it, or a prompt that lets me search for a driver not shown but present on the machine.

Harbinger is listed and I'm waiting to hear from PGM, I contacted them Fri. morning and emailed them about the issue and included a link to this thread.

OM,
Steinburg is likely the Generic USB driver Windows found and OP says works ..
I wouldn't doubt that a restart (with the the Mixer ON) allowed Windows/RB to find the correct input.
I haven't seen any screen shots since he said he got it working.

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

There is the screenshot of the track lineup above that indicates the Harbinger drivers are being sourced. Everything else is the same except now the input driver has been updated to show the same change I made to its name in windows by now reading Harbinger and now BB is showing both the input and output drivers under the ASIO driver menu.

Rharv/Maticulous.

ok thanks... now things make sense.

its just the steiny driver threw me cos any interface ive owned including my current audient its name appears in win and bb and rb.
so essentially the steiny asio driver is a 'surrogate'...right...?
i see also harbinger is mentioned in rb tracks view....good.
(here my audient shows up on every track in rb tracks view.)

next steps....

Maticulous.

1..normally these days a little desktop app comes with any audio interface...for example i can change buffer sizes by going to a desktop audient app....SO..
do you have such an app where you can change buffer sizes ??
2..lets see what your pc is capable of...maticulous...and its a rough guide. please in rb menus go to ACTION>>TEST AUDIO PERFORMANCE and post back the number of tracks.
for example here i get over 300 tracks BUT i halve it as i take a conservative approach and want to keep some things in reserve.
anyway i use max up to 40 tracks in any song i do.
3..also could you post back how looong your pc boots into windows and bb and rb from cold. as a guide here just a few secs for win boot.
and rb/bb around 4 or 5 secs from clicking on the icons.

i assume you can now record in rb/bb right.

now i'm off to have my nightly kip.

happiness.

Yes I do, I set it to 48,000 Hz DVD quality in windows, but I'd have to search for it again.

655 mono tracks so ~327 by comparison.

This is the fastest PC I've owned so far, purchased for that reason. Windows opens very quickly just from recollection, RB opens in 1 sec from clicking enter, BB just under 1 sec. I've worked from my laptop ~80% of the time so the PC has sat idle quite a bit since purchased and isn't loaded with a lot of extra curricular apps.

i assume you can now record in rb/bb right.

This is correct. My PC will be used primarily for transcribing and editing background tracks. I purchased a new laptop a few days ago because my newest workhorse is a 12+ yr old i7 showing its age. I purchased a Samsung Galaxy Book 4 Ultra pro 16" and that was going to be my music center and everything else for a long time.

Unfortunately I somehow missed the full scope of the negative reviews posted on Bestbuy and a follow-up check plus a google search after placing the order yielded a reddit thread of owners applauding the performance and the beauty of the OLED screen, which at any moment could crack for seemingly no reason, simply opening the laptop was enough particularly on the larger size screens. The thing was $1400 on sale. I met the UPS driver at the truck, put the unopened laptop in the car and took it straight back to Bestbuy for a refund. I'll wait a little longer for something as fast or faster than the i7 Ultra Evo chipset it had for a lot less. Feels so much better knowing that money is coming back to me.

now i'm off to have my nightly kip.

happiness.

Maticulus.

my reply...

1..sampling rate (48k) is not what i mean.
here i have an app from the manufacturer of my
interface that lets me set 32 or 64 or higher samples.
and other things..eg setting input volumes and stopping any type of input clipping or input overload etc.
the app is very usefull and smart.

2..the track count reported by rb is very very good.
no probs there. well done.

3..those boot times also no probs. great.

4..the laptop. i urge you before buying any new pc to read this...

https://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=795663#Post795663

note...the above guide includes a link to a site that amongst things tests laptops.

5..ok your recording. tell us if you get any latency problems.

Thanks again and I'm pretty sure I have the feature you mentioned or some aspects of it as I specifically recall seeing a prompt that allowed me to adjust the sampling rate, I just don't recall where.

I'm definitely going to investigate the laptop purchase further as it relates to compatibility and feel I have probably already encountered the thread you linked to during an earlier search to address the challenges here which were really growing pains associated with finally moving toward proper setup and use of the program by interfacing with a mixer.

I'm really looking forward to the journey into the next level.
