Remember:
UserTracks Wishlist
UserTracks are user-created RealTracks. Use this forum to post requests to other users for specific styles you want.

User would get enthusiastic, helpful and create up UserTracks for other users by request, tho only a few of us did frown
I don't know why it never took off, it all works now with partial regen available, See Here.

One of the better ideas from PG. Unfortunately, like most things PG it was a bit of a mess and often more problematic to use than it was worth. A shame though, maybe it would have improved if it hadn't got abandoned.

Lee N,

If you liked the idea that UserTracks offered but haven't tried creating a UserTrack lately, you may want to revisit the feature.

The only limitation when the UserTracks feature was introduced was that the feature did not honor the 3/4 time signature. That limitation was resolved a few years ago.

Are you aware of any limitation I overlooked?

Was there a thing that you were not able to do shots, rests, holds and endings in U.Tracks? I might be mistaken.

RustySpoon#, your memory is better than mine. When UserTracks was first released shots, rests, holds and endings did not work. Additionally there was no guidance regarding the UserTracks Development Bar settings window. At least now, the Band-in-a-Box Help file has a screen shot and some descriptive information about the UserTracks Development Bar Settings window.

UserTracks Development Settings for Bar

The [UserTracks Development] button in the Edit Settings for Current Bar dialog opens a dialog with advanced setting for making UserTracks.

The dialog allows you to determine how the bars of music you recorded for your UserTracks will be applied by Band-in-a-Box in the song. For example, you can completely exclude a particular bar or make it only play in a particular place like an ending or a fill.

UserTracks Development Settings for Bar dialog

Bar # and Chorus # indicate the current song location. This is the bar where the settings will be applied, but you can apply them to a range of bars if you enter a list (3,5,7) and/or range (10-20, 25-28) of bars, separated by commas, in the field under Enter a Range of Bars.

Don’t include this bar in the UserTracks excludes the current bar (or range of bars, if set) from the UserTracks and will never be used.

Ending starts on this bar (4 bar ending) sets the current bar as the first bar of the 4-bar ending.

Don’t start a new Riff on this bar prevents the current bar from being used as the start of a new riff. This is useful if the bar has sustained notes carried over from the previous bar and no new attack of a note.

Don’t End a Riff at the start of this bar means that the current bar (or list of bars in the edit control) will not be used to end a riff at the start of the bar. This is useful if the previous bar doesn’t have a defined ending for a riff.

Only choose this bar if the key matches allows the bar to be used only if the user’s song key matches the key of this song. So, if this is the IV chord, it would only get chosen if it will be the IV chord in the user’s song.

This bar is simple sets the bar to use simple riffs.

Only Play this for a fill sets the current bar as a fill, which will only be played where the user’s song is also a fill.

Only play this for a post fill (after a fill) sets the current bar (or list of bars in the edit control) to only play after a fill in the user’s song.

Odd/Even must match sets the current bar to play in the user’s song only if the odd/even status (bars after a part marker) matches the user’s song.

Always play this bar if it matches means that the current bar (or list of bars) will always get played, as long as its chord and other settings are compatible. It overrides any other riffs that match.

Once is enough (don’t repeat this) sets the bar to only be played once in a song. Use for an unusual riff that you don’t want repeated.

Bar/Beat Markers: You can set the location of the bar or beat markers if the riff doesn’t start on the bar or beat. You can set the location in ms offset, and also set the riff marker type, begin and/or end. The offsets can be set visually in the Audio Edit window.

When you look at these settings it becomes fairly obvious that making a useful UserTracks that can be applied across multiple genres and songs requires some planning, attention to detail and multiple SGU/audio file couplets. For example a user likely would desire multiple endings across multiple key signatures.

@Jim Fogle, @ Rustyspoon.

I can't remember to be honest, it was a while ago that I tried. I managed to get it doing what I want somehow in the end but not as according to the manual and the templates and took a hell of a lot of messing about. I might have to give it another go sometime.

Lee N,

As you mentioned there is normally more than one way to do anything, including getting UserTracks to play what you want. I'm glad you found a way to obtain the results you wanted.

+++ THIS +++ thread has some really good hints about creating and using UserTracks. One is your homemade template may work for your homemade UserTrack as well, or better, than a PG Music template. Related, you may want to create multiple templates to cover different situations such as chord inversions or genres.

The other issue is having to upload masses of wav files with the UserTrack you want to share.
There are flac files now in the UserTracks that come from PG but the flac don't work when you remove the wavs.
Is this going to be another drawn out issue ?
