I have the Sony ICO PX720. I use it for recording choir rehearsal and it works fine for that. It will accept an outboard mike, and that helped a lot.

One time I was in hurry. I hooked up my best mike to a Shure mixer, then ran from the mixer to the Sony. Then ran the result into RealBand. Made a pretty good demo MP3 - better than expected.

I would say buy from a local store that has a return policy. You really wont know if it does what you want until you get your hands in it.

There are a lot of other factors that contribute to a "good' or 'bad" recording. Room ambiance, mic quality, even the quality of the AC electricity in your studio. Recording a piano can be tricky with the best equipment. If you can get a good recording with such a modest recorder, you are on your way.

If you can't, it might not matter whether you have the H2 or some other super-cool whoop-de-do.
