ray has suggested a couple of times that I should be taking the lead away from Brent.
Not sure that is a good idea, but...

I needed to write something in order to do that.
I thought a simple 1-4-5 rock'n'roll kind of thing would be a good, simple place to start.
It wasn't. Turned out I hadn't played in this key before. Fooled me. I'm new at this.
And it turned out to be a pentatonic thing instead of the full scale thing I was hoping to do.
So just more of the same.
Best laid plans.

I wanted the write to be something ray would appreciate
I didn't really have anything to write about.
So that's what I wrote about.
I thought ray would appreciate that.

(but really just an excuse to play some guitar)

The BAND:

I GOT NOTHING TO SAY

there's been more than one occasion
as many can attest
i just had to speak my mind
get some [*****] off my chest
but now
i got nothing to say

the whole damn world's gone crazy
we all forgot the point
the inmates found the keys
they're running the joint
does it matter how?
i got nothing to say

i hope we find a way
to cool this big ball down a bit
i hope we find a place
where everyone can fit
how 'bout you?
i got nothing to say

i hope you find some love
i hope you find some peace
a joy in simply living
i hope you hope just like me
waddaya think?
i got nothing to say

Brent's job is, no doubt, safe.

If you've got something to say...
go ahead.

Hiya Floyd Jane,

Seems you found exactly what to say and said it well too. I've never commented on your tunes before, mostly because they're a little hard for my personal tastes, but I'm glad this one gave me the opportunity to resonate with the message.

Peace

Floyd,

Love the song, band and the hard hitting sound! I also love the way you are using your voice here. You've got some excellent growl going on in this performance.

The guitar tone and playing is EXCELLENT. I'd put this up against Brent any day. Everything is so in the pocket and natural sounding.

LOVED IT!

Nice rocker. This was a fun listen. A fade-out..... haven't heard one of those in a while.

Good to see you're not afraid to put it out there. The guitar playing was good. The Pentatonic scale is a standard for practically all blues and rock solos and fills. Keep at it.

Floyd, that's a cool and creamy overdrive you've got going on. Really fun fills and a tasty solo. Nicely arranged and mixed as well. Super vocals! Love the fade ending and the soloist who just...won't...quit...playing...

Well, I've got plenty to say!

I'm confused. I read your intro description and are you saying YOU are the one playing those filler licks and solos? Not kidding. Is that what you meant? I'm going to comment as though that's the case.

First, yeah, you wrote a song. It's you, so it's good. All my typically comments apply. wink

Back to the guitar.

I may be way off on this, I'm no guitar scientist, but that sounds like Billy Gibbons type guitar playing to me. It's about feel. It's about tone. It's about melodic choice. It's about THE SOUND. No garnish, ALL meat!

I really liked it. I'm sorry if you have to be more direct about if that's you playing or not. I know you mentioned not that long ago that you started tinkering around with lead. It just doesn't seem like you would be at this point already if that's the case. Like I said, that wasn't that long ago...at all! I mean, that's a really great sound. Loved the tone, especially for that style of music.

So, if that is you, my advice would be to quit as soon as possible. Pick a lane and get great at it. It's pick "a" lane. As in one. No need to be great at all of them. grin

Shacking my head as I walk out again, questioning what I've been doing with my life. cry

I'm with Chad about the guitar. That's good enough playing to go anywhere and feel comfortable sitting in with the band. Another good write. Another good song. It's fun to come to this forum and just have a good time and listen to some good tunes. Enjoyed this one a lot.

1stly - I'm truly honoured.
Then - I really like the lead stuff. It may be pentatonic but it WORKS a treat and wailing on it is "tradition".
You say it well when you've nothing to say...wow, some territory.
The outro - you did what gets to me best - I wanted to hear what was happening in the moments after the fade out...al the good rock guitar tunes do that o me.
Cool band, cool vocal, a strong non message & COOOOOL lead stuff.
Personally I'm still not at pentatonic level - I'm still plugging chord tones and am afraid of bends.
You sir, have all of that well sorted.

Cheers

Great rocking song, Floyd. I loved the guitar solos, particularly the long one at the end. The song deserved nothing to say and only music at the end.

I love this Floyd .

I could hear the fun in your voice which in turn made the song fun to listen to.
You underestimate your substantial lead guitar skills Floyd which are even more impressive given that the key was not guitar friendly.
Also kudos for writing something about not having anything to write about. Very creative.
You've got PLENTY to say Floyd and I'm all ears enjoying your great music!

Hi, floyd jane.

Pentatonic playing is the best fit over a blues progression? I'm shocked! Shocked, I say. laugh

The song works as a song, as well as an excuse for playing solos. Isn't that what rock is all about anyway?

Nice.

Superb. Superb song, great playing, great singing (as usual). I hope I, one day, write like this when I have nothing to write about smile . Love the edge in this song - throughout (in your voice, playing, writing). I've heard many beautiful ballads from you, as well as some brilliant up tempo songs ... this is "biting", edgy stuff. And I really like the message of the song, too - it speaks for itself, nothing more to say than what it fully says.

Well done.

Sounds good to me, Floyd, I was jamming along while I listened wink

Playing pentatonic scales is certainly the first step, and many of the old masters made a career doing just that, Albert King comes to mind, Otis Rush too, and many more.

Good choice of amp sims too, S-Gear is what I've been using for the last few years now also.

Fun stuff!! More please smile

Really enjoyed this, so professional and smooth! Loved the “spoken” line—added a great dimension to the listen.

Floyd, I'm not sure you have nothing to say because I love your song and especially these lyrics:

they're running the joint".

Man, for a guy with nothing to say, you say it so well. Cool, driving feel that does well to affirm your admission, pounding out each word with a band that can. Your guitar speaks volumes, Floyd. And it's all so well said. Thanks, Ray!!

Enjoy whatever happens!

Floyd,

I'm convinced you can write something better than 99% of us off of a cereal box!
Love this little rockin' tune! Loved the guitar parts you added (That thing sounds great)
That four on the floor rhythmic change was awesome!
Floyd, you're the best man! Keep on rockin'

Thanks, TB
