Do I have to reinstall BiaB or is there a way to move real tracks to an external drive? My Hdd is getting to full. Running BiaB 2025 with all of the style packs. Is copy and paste or move viable? Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi MountainMan.
It is possible to move either one or both of the \bb\Realtracks and \bb\Drums folders to a new location.
I did this last year and my approach was...
1) Copy \bb\Realtracks and \bb\Drums to a new location. 2) Delete the folders in their old location. 3) In Relatracks preferences, set the path for the new location. 4) In Reakdrums preferences, set the path for the new location. 5) In Sylepicker, do a slow rebuild of styles, Realtracks and Realdrums.
This worked fine for me. --Noel

This worked fine for me. --Noel Thank you. I am going to do this recently. Because it takes up a lot of D drive. But now I am spending less time opening BIAB. I am going to move it to external hard drive E

I have my RealTracks and RealDrums on a different drive, and I have set the Preferences appropriately. But every time I open BIAB, it has forgotten the change and reverted to the standard C drive location, so it can't find them until I reset the preferences. Is there something I can do to make this preferences change more permanent? Thanks for any help!

I've used a secondary (internal) drive for RT / RD tracks last year. Once I set location, it stayed. Could it be that your external drive assigns the drive letter dynamically and it changes depending on circumstances?

The drive letter never changes. But when BIAB is closed then reopened, the "use a custom folder location" for both Realtracks and RealDrums is no longer checked, forcing me to manually reset every time I use the program.

Jim56, Once you set the RealTrack and RealDrums external drive location are you saving the setting? ![[Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in]](https://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=download&Number=29897&filename=Clipboard01.jpg)

Tested. Could not repeat. It saved custom folder (on external drive) for me. Without clicking "Save preference as". I did save the project I was working on, maybe that saved in preference file...
Jim56, what version of BIAB do you have?

I actually didn't think that there was a requirement to specifically "save preferences as". I understood that this was intended to just save the current preferences as a 'backup'.
As long as OK is pressed from both the RealDrums and RealTracks and Preferences dialogs, they should stick. I wonder if it is a privilege related issue? Are you running BIAB as administrator?

Jim,
Following on from Rustspoon#'s previous question... Are your Realtracks and Realdrums on an internal drive or on a USB drive?

Thanks everyone for responding. I'm using the 2020 BIAB version on a Windows 11 machine. It definitely doesn't save those preference settings with the saved song, when I reload the song, they are reverted back to the standard location. I opened the program as the administrator as "Audio Track" suggested - same issue. I tried saving the preferences as Jim F suggested, when I tried to open that preference file, the program crashed - I think that's a different problem, but in any case, having to open a separate preference file each time I start up the program wouldn't be much less hassle than just updating the RealTracks Preference.
I guess it's something specific to my setup?

It definitely doesn't save those preference settings with the saved song, The RealDrums and RealTracks settings are never expected to be saved with the 'song'. They are global settings that affect everything. Based on the statement above, can I ask: Do you have more than one location for your RealDrums and RealTracks, and use different ones depending on the actual song?

"when I tried to open that preference file, the program crashed". I think that the program crashes when you try to load the Preference file is related to your issue of the program not saving the style you load.
As a test, do you mind creating a new song file, load a style then save the song file under a new name. This test might help determine if the current song file you're using is corrupted.

Hi Jim, I have tried reopening the same song, other songs, rebooted, etc. As AT said, the Preferences are universal, so they should be saved across all songs, but in my case, they are not. AT, to answer your question, I have RealDrums and RealTracks in one location, on the external drive. Once I change the preferences to the correct location, everything works, until I close the program and reopen for another session, then I find the preferences have reverted to the C drive and must be changed again.
Very weird, especially since Rustyspoon does not have this problem.

I have 2025 version, so it might not be a good challenge. Ok. Do you have the last patch for that year, 2020? (Time to upgrade? I think they still run the special ) This is how I did this:

Thanks Rusty, yup that's what I am doing. The difference is that it doesn't stay changed. Regarding upgrades, I'm not so sure, since I'm having other problems too: The VST plug-in version always crashes Cubase, so I never use it. And in the standalone, when I'm playing a song, the bar that's playing is not highlighting - which it used to do.
Sorry to cram more issues into this thread.

Weird. I know it might sound silly... Can you try plugging your HD to another USB port?
I had some anomalies with external storage on particular USB ports on different computers.

Jim, I used to run my Realtracks/Realdrums from an external USB and because I unplugged it and plugged it back in periodically, the settings weren't remembered. To overcome this, I plugged the USB drive into my computer and then used Windows Disk Management to set a permanent letter for the drive (I used P:). Then I always made sure that I plugged the external drive into the same USB slot. That worked for me. The computer definitely seems to treat an external drive that is assigned a specific drive letter differently than a drive that is randomly assigned a letter, even if the letter assigned is the same. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/storage/disk-management/change-a-drive-letter I hope this helps, --Noel
