12 Bars' Booze on Soundcloud
12 Bars' Booze on YouTube

A song suggesting that music is a better healer that booze.

File:12 Bars' Booze.SGU
Key=Dm , Tempo 69, Length (m:s)=3:56

Style is _MONDAY.STY (Slow Swing 8ths Blues)

RealTracks in song: 2733:Piano, Acoustic, Rhythm BluesSlow128Mike Sw 065
RealTracks in style: 565:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm Blues Monday Sw 065
RealTracks in style: ~569:Guitar, Resophonic, Rhythm Blues Delta Sw 065
RealTracks in song: ~675:Organ, B3, Background Blues Monday Sw 065
RealDrums in style:Nashville128^08-a:Snare, Hihat , b:Snare, Ride was used in the redesign in EZDDrummer.
Dave Bell (Blue Attitude) played guitar. I played bass and sang.

12 Bars' Booze

Everybody's saying, "I told you so."
So much so I come to believe.
All this pain they can't begin to know.
Oh, why won't they just let me grieve?
How am I to live without you? Drown it out with 12 bars' booze?

You held my heart and then you let it fall.
And now they see it's torn in half.
You brought me love and then you took it all.
So now my life's an empty laugh.
Wash away this pain without you? Soak myself with 12-bars' booze?

You never told me you loved me. So why didn't I have a clue?
And when they told me you left me, why did I chase after you?

Everybody's saying I play like hell,
and that's the way I feel inside.
I play until my fingers start to swell.
The pain of loss I need to hide.
There's no time to drink about you. I pour myelf in 12-bar blues.
So down the drain with 12-bars' booze.

Hi Marty.
You two are the blues in twos.

The line: "I play until my fingers start to swell".
Reminds me of the time when I was playing bass guitar in a band and lost my pick (I always played with one) and had to play with my thumb.
After an hour or so I noticed blood was dripping onto the stage from my sore thumb. eek
Sounds great by the way.

Marty, slinky and cool song! Love your vocals, and Dave's guitar cuts like a knife. Funny, knew this was Dave within the first three notes. You two really sound great jammin' the blues together!.

Boys! You both outdid yourselves on this one!

Gorgeous opening, Dave. Fire fills. Your best solo ever (I think).
And that tone. Ya sprinkled some magic on that somehow. Near perfect (on the assumption "perfection" is never found).

Marty's Bass is just as Big. And all the support anyone would ever need. Beautiful.

Love the write.
Beautiful mix.

Zowie! this is good!!!!!

Thanks so much, Bob. It's a good thing Dave's guitars are fireproof cuz his fingers are on fire.

HAHAHA. Thanks so much for this comment, Vic. Seems you went way beyond swelling that night. I pretty much only use my index finger and occasionally add the thumb. Guitar player friend once used Gorrilla Snot or something. On the break he couldn't let go of his whiskey glass --he blamed his sticky fingers.

That is a clever lyric and a sentiment we much agree with.

That’s some passionate/soulful singing and playing by you and Dave!
The smoke all around the guitarist in the vid during Dave’s smoking solo was great.

No need to parse this any more.
Simply stated it is an excellent blues tune.
And, no surprise, we love it!
Well, one more comment smile Great mix.

Well, not sure what happened, but these 4 replies below are recreated from ones I posted early this morning. Noticed they were probably never posted when I came back to look for new songs posted, which I now see so will be back soon.

Hmm... I remember previously saying something like WOW, what a wonderful compliment, Floyd, Then I agreed with ya about Dave, and gushed on about something... Point is, I really really appreciate you listening and liking what you hear, Floyd.

Thanks, Scott. Seems I always play the charachter in the song, and Dave never has trouble getting into his role.

Thanks, Mario. I think I said something about you living equadistant to Dave and me, and how it would be great to show up for a jam with you and Ron some Sunday. We'd call the song Pipe Dream.

Marty,

Great video as always.
So I can really understand the lyrics.
Dave's guitar and your vocals are in perfect sync.
The chord progression is a little different from the usual blues chord progression, but I really feel the blues in this song.
Enjoyed my listen and watch a lot.

Best regards.

You two always make great music. Dave's guitar smokes through cones in my speakers. Great playing ([*****] usual), Dave!

Marty, your unique vocals are terrific. Sounding great. And your bass lines are always top notch. You have a great touch and sense of what works for each song.

Great song, great arrangement, super presentation!

Thanks, J&B. You guys are my second favorite Blues band, tied with Blue Attitude except for a certain bias. When you guys preach, I sit in the front row of the choir. Amen.

Thank you, Elliott. Tried writing about 12 bars of TNT that blew, but this was easier. hehe

Thanks, David. The Blues have crept their way into our fingers, and they demand release at times. Dave makes it work. I like how music uses work as a synonym for play.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.

The 2026 49-PAK is loaded with other great new add-ons as well. Learn more about the 2026 49-PAK!
