In the wishlist forum there are a number of threads on improving the GUI. However there is not a thread on improving the menus. Am I wrong in thinking that is also a big part of the GUI? Or is that being included in another thread? If so which thread as I haven't found it.

When you are at the checkout line and they ask if you found everything say "Why, are you hiding stuff?"

In the pre-release forum, which has a very limited audiance, jpettit has been "a voice crying in the wilderness"- Isaiah 40:3. He has been all over this topic for a long period. He has had some success as seen the menu structure in the BIAB-VST, but not so much in BIAB. Maybe he can help clarify. I am afraid the convoluted and redundant and overly deep menus are just one of the very unique properties of BIAB and ain't goin to change in our time. Hey, everyone want options and PGM wants to give them options.

Mario,

As I see it, menus are definitely part of the GUI.

Andrew has created a thread calling for suggestions regarding "Toolbars and Layout". The menu structure would fit into that category.

I have, for a VERY long time, Wished for a user-definable “Essential Settings” control that would allow us to reduce the menus from an impenetrable dogpile of wonderful, subtle adjustments to this incredible environment we have available to us, down to what WE need to what WE want, AND NO MORE.

The idea is not original to me. Years ago there was an Aston Martin Lagonda, the dash panel of which displayed ONE HUNDRED FORTY FOUR (144) READINGS. Since this was clearly too much for everyday driving, the maker thoughtfully provided an Essential Settings switch, which reduced the glaring mass of indicators down to 12.

In all truth, I may use five percent (5%) of what BIAB has to offer. And I WISH WISH WISH that I could pick and choose which Settings are displayed, and reduce those overwhelming listings down to what *I* use regularly, AND that others could do the same.

I know that there are keyboard Shortcuts that anyone can learn and use. I even know of an adjunct bit of software which, because I have used it for decades, could make that task even easier. But that is another expense and another layer of complexity, when we are trying to SIMPLIFY things.

I am asking for a way to cut down what we see to ONLY what individuals users need for THEIR applications.

I don’t know how to phrase the idea any more clearly. I would lover others to mull over the concept and offer their thoughts.

Thanks for reading!

Richard, you're certainly not a voice in the wilderness. Many people have asked many times for tailored and stylized menus that suit the user's particular requirements. The level of menu complexity attained over 30+ years of development and add-ons is non conducive to the practical functional requirements of many users.

100% some menu items can and should be consolidated and simpler language used.
Seems that finally PGM is seriously considering long due UI /Workflow redo. Please use the upper threads in Wishlist section of the forum to voice any specific idea(s) that you think will make a difference for the better.

If you read through the posts, it mainly deals with workflow- enhancing existing features, tools, menus and making UI more flexible and user friendly.

Was 2025 upgrade worth it? Yes! But 2026 will be truly a pivoting year and we shall see how much love for users PGM has. But for now, please use opportunity to offer concrete suggestions.

Exactly, this has been asked, MANY times by MANY different users for MANY years here. And it would be so easy for PGM, I've never understood why this request had been ignored for so long.

In fact, menu simplification / reorganization would be the first area I'll concentrate on if I was part of the development team.

An improved, modern and efficient search algorithm would be probably next.

Latest BIAB version, latest build.

Maybe we should just go ahead and start a wishlist thread for menus with a similar title (Specific suggestions - Menus) and then ask PGM to pin it?
