Yeah, I think he has the output selection wrong in RB.
If you can see the input from the Nord on the VU's, you can record it (success on the input side). Check your output selection in Options-Preferences-Audio and select the correct main outputs to the saffire. Make sure they highlited and use the 'move selected device to top' button to make them the defaults.
The difference between RB and BiaB, as far as generation backing tracks, is that you have to tell RB to generate. It doesn't autogenerate on each play as BiaB does. The benefit? You can generate just a single track or even a couple measures of a track when you want to. Or select a few tracks to regenerate.. more flexible this way for me.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

OK so I have had a blue screen and took the option to accept default set up. I checked this out and the Saffire is selected and on correct channels still no sound in real band for the midi tracks and now I have lost the Audio input from the Nord which was being heard..
I have checked the MIDI inputs and outputs and both are set to the Nord

--Can you describe exactly how you have the Nord keyboard connected to your computer?
--Also, please tell us what all of the MIDI input and output driver options are in the [Options - Preferences - MIDI - MIDI Devices] dialog.
--Which input and output driver(s) do you have selected?
--Is the "Re-route MIDI playback to default DXi synth" box checked or unchecked?
--If it's checked, what is the EXACT name of the DXi or VSTi synth you have selected?
--Use the sample file impromptu.seq to test your MIDI output. Do you hear sound when you play this file?

TYHank you Andrew and all.
I have tried various set ups. Currently my Audio driver is Asio the saffire,.
The Nord is connected to channels 5 & 6 (which I presume translates to 4 &5 being as the Saffire starts from 1 and Real Band from 0). This set up did work once in Real band I heard sound from the inbuilt Hammond organ in the Nord which I could adjust using the drawbars in the Nord - now no sound.
Currently MIDI ports are set to LIquid 56 (from the Saffire driver for my Saffire 56)
The Reroute MIDI playback to DXI is not cu8rrently selected . I have tried to set this, but it is blank ie. nothing is selectable in the drop down menu. I own both Cyote and Forte and they can be used in BIAB.
Using the impromptu file I get no sound

So, its high time that BAIB had a mixer, proper, inside application, routings and the ability to host VSTs properly - i say this in the hope PG is listening. Its stll a great program but it is crippled in substantial was.
Wil I use real band? Well I guess I will have no choice. Another layer of complexity - what wil BIAB do and what will RB do and what will they not do, I guess I am compelled to spendhours doing this I think its like avig a word processer that does not do paragraph formatting, or font changing, and simply supplies another application to do this instead at a stroke making everything more tedious and complex even though the 'roblem' issue is 'solved' Much better tat the original application contains all functionality.
BIAB without mijxer and VST hoting, without ability to input Audio correctly is a cripled application. Sorry to say this as in other ways its tremendous and vey well thought out, howeever it doesnt provide essential functionality.
While I basically agree with you because the issue of Biab only having one midi output port has been talked about for years and it has been on the whishlist also for years, this is one of the main reasons Real Band was created in the first place. A lot of us think RB is PG's answer to that single output port problem but they don't publish their reasoning for what they do. With only one midi output port, there's no need for Biab to have a full mixer because you're only dealing with one synth and the on screen individual instrument buttons perform the function of a mixer. Remember, Biab is designed to create backing tracks, not to be a full fledged production app. Create your tracks and then move them to another app for all that. In this case Real Band does what you want. If you think learning Real Band creates another layer of complexity, consider what putting 48 tracks, multiple synth capability, multitrack audio/midi recording, full mastering capability, full midi and audio editing would do if all that were to be integrated into Biab. Now, that would be one monsterous and complex program. There's no one perfect answer here Zero. PG as a company has to make difficult choices as how they're going to market their products. Just accept it and learn whatever you have to in order to get your job done.

--Do you have a MIDI cable connected from the MIDI OUT port on your Saffire, to the MIDI IN port on your Nord?
--What are all of the MIDI output driver options available to you in RealBand?
--It doesn't make sense to me that the CoyoteWT would appear in Band-in-a-Box, but not in RealBand. However we could put that issue aside for the time being, since it doesn't sound like you want to use that anyways.

Thasnk you all for the support. I have phoned tech and trhey rang me international and sorted out my issues with real band. I had two corrupt (or suspected) files a config file and a .ini file. Onmce these were refreshed then the application worked. This was a first class bit of vsupport and one of PG's many virtues. Now all I have to do is learn another application! There are a lot of similarities I am sure, hardest part is determining what each of the apps can and cant do... Life is never easy! Zero

I really think that for your set up RB will the cat's meow .. the bee's knees, so to speak.
Remember, if you are more comfortable in BiaB you can still start the song there, then when ready to add the Nord and other tracks just open the BiaB file in Realband.. and record away. Chnage tracks to different softsynths, etc etc
I like the multiple audio tracks and multiple VSTi features compared to BB.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

I see your point Rharv, but I already have Cubase 5, this is why I did not want to get into another sequencer - but I guess I must.

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!
Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!
Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.
Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.
Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!
And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
