Hello folks,
This morning I needed to use the plugin when tracking in Reaper.
The plug in was placed into the project prior to upgrading from 24 to 25 and was very successfully used on this particular project for two months.
When I ran Reaper this morning the plug in seemed to have doubled the count in and was running slow.
I changed the time setting in BIAB as a diff was illuminated. Ran the project and the result was the same.
I used the plugin to reopen the SGU. It did this VERY slowly then crashed Reaper.
I tried this four times with the same result.
I've not installed the latest build, downloaded but not run, but having checked the "fixes" the issue wasn't mentioned.
W10 machine, Reaper 6, BIAB 2025 installed.
Any suggestions?

I would definitely try build 1125e. There have been numerous changes that affect the plugin, so it is definitely work pursuing with the latest version.

Thanks Jim,
I've subsequently installed the latest build & Plug In - downloaded this morning.
The problem persists.
It is just the one project in the three or four that my brief investigations have opened.
The track is in BIAB's convoluted form of 8/4, (if I recall properly) though it reads 4/4 in the box, every bar of the song is individually labelled 4/4 which makes me think it is the 8/4 thing or something similar.
The count in flash starts up soon enough but the actual song kick in, from BIAB plug, (& I'm not playing audio files just running the chart screen to help with tracking), a bar late.
I can get buy I suppose but I did want to retrack a solo across 16 bars with quite a few chord changes so was hoping for the help that the chart usually provides.

Cheers

Can you make a copy of the rpp then open it and remove the BB Plugin then load it on a new track.

In the past a thread with this title whould have caused me to jump in and try to help. But now... this problem is just another thursday morning. Others have recommended to reload the v6 from late 2024 as they claim it is more stable. Sorry I can't help you any more.

What sample rate are you using in your DAW, and does it match the sample rate your interface is set to? As well, can you go to File > About in the plugin, then tell us the version of the plugin and engine?

This is a good suggestion, particularly if the RPP was originally created with an old version of the plugin. The saved plugin state in the RPP from an old version could confuse the new version.

Yep, I removed it. saved it under a new name. Opened it. Added PGPLUGIN, opened SGU and the moment the SGU was loaded Reaper crashed...about nine times over a couple of days of trying.

Hello Simon,
here's the info:
A) 2/2ch 2048spls 47/47ms ASIO 48khz 24 bt
PLUGIN
2025 v7.0.10
BIAB
2025.0.0.1124
SSL ASIO driver
B) Just the one at the moment. I've tried a few more without the initial issue of count in going wonky & haven't pushed them into the next stage as I don't want to, erroneously, scar a project. I did get a message, this morning, that the time signatures were different between DAW & Plug so change the DAW to 4/4 instead of 8/4, saved it under a new name, closed it, opened it, added the plug, selected the SGU, song opened, chart opened, then Reaper crashed.
C) Yeah, I did that the day before yesterday and a few times today. Crashes every time.

Cheers

I went to download the latest 2024 Plugin Installer but there is only
Band-in-a-Box® Version 2024 Build 1113 Update (500 MB)
This patch will update Band-in-a-Box® 2024 to Build 1113 from any previous 2024 build. This includes VST DAW Plugin 6.1.13.

I don't know why they don't have just the Plugin Installer for download rather than the massive 500 MB package.

I was going to extract just the vst3 for you to try so you can just swap it.

This is the latest ones in the Plugin Forum:
Band-in-a-Box 2024 Build 1109 Update (with DAW Plugin 6.1.4) (Jan 30)
by Andrew - PG Music
Band-in-a-Box® 2024 - DAW Plugin Version 6 New Features Video

Can you try that with a different song, after making a backup of the RPP first of course?

Excellent suggestion - to get the VST2 version, please navigate to X:\bb\Data\Installers (where X is wherever BIAB is installed), then run the biab_daw_plugin installer - there should be one there that says 7.0.10. When installing, make sure to select Custom Installation then check the box for VST2 64-bit (NOT the one that says VST2 FX). On a later page of the installer there should be a checkbox to install to C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST2 (e.g. Reaper) - check that one and continue. Once it's installed, Reaper should scan it on next launch, then you can find it in the plugins list under VSTi or under PG Music.

Because the updated plugin always requires the updated version of BIAB, and because it would otherwise be a waste of server storage for the 0.2% of users who want an incomplete installer.

Please don't, for the reasons listed above.

I suggested he use the 2024 vst with the 2025 bbw4 if not he can use the 2024 vst with the 2024 bbw4.
I do this all the time to work issues out.
This way you can get something working if you are broken down on the side of the road.

Another option is use Free Element VST load that then load or drag n drop the VST2/VST3 into it enabling the EXT button top left to let it sync.
I hope you are not still stuck broken down on the side of the road. If you need help you can PM me.
EDIT: you don't get the Reaper features using this.

That is what I always thought until recently users have shown me how to load the prior V6 of the VST into the BIAB 2025. So you can go back and it does allow one to return to last years working VST plugin with this years BIAB. PM me if you want instructions.

Indeed for me V7 (04 or 10) does not work correctly in generating instructions in Reaper. It takes a huge amount of time compared to versions 6.XX and above all the tracks are offset, they start too early (often on the and of the 3), and I can't correct it at all.

Then in Studio One, the generation does not work either and the simplest is the generation of wav, so we lose all the interest of the Plugin instructions. I don't really know how to film my screen to show you but it's pretty obvious that I have a bug. If anyone can get results, give me some advice. Thanks.

(V6 proudly displays "song generated in 2.6 sec. while I'm still waiting for V7.) Try it on _CERAMIC, you'll understand.

At the same time, if only 0.2% of us are trying to run the plugin, it's really not a problem for the others, I have to admit.
It's already been over a month that I'm stuck on this, I'll keep the V6 for good, no choice.

Yes we need the biab_daw_plugin.exe installers available for download

If you have issues with the Plugin in Reaper you can use Import-frozen-SGU-MGU-realtracks-drums-tracks-GUI.zip
This will also fit the sections from Biab to any tempo map. You simply freeze the track or tracks or sections, Save the SGU, then open in Reaper, Reload tracks each time you have made changes in Biab but always Save SGU first.

Yes, I use your work (very) often, and I take this opportunity to thank you, but this is a way of bypassing the plugin, even though we paid for it with everything else.
I don't think I have such a special configuration that the plugin only bugs with me. When fast generation arrived on the Reaper plugin, I only used that. Now Biab 25 is also almost as fast as the V6 plugin, so the plugin will probably be dropped.

The plugin in Reaper has this exceptional feature that it does not take time to generate wavs, this is for me the main advantage. Saves space and saves time. But when it does not want to, it does not want to. I'm surprised it was released in this non-functional state, but I feel like I'm the only one having this problem, so I'll do without it until a fix is available.

It's amusing how we're sweating over saving 100MB on the servers when we're pushing nearly 1TB of FLAC downloads this year. Talk about a factor of 10,000! wink

We're getting off topic. If you want to discuss whether v6 or v7 is better or how much you love JUCE or anything else, start a new thread. This one is specific to the crashes that RayC is having.

This should also be a separate thread, but I'll address it anyway. In the "Send to Reaper" panel, is Use REAPER Instructions" checked? If this is unchecked, then the Generate Type settings under the Generate button will be used.

Can you try the plugin standalone version? If that can't generate anything either, then you have an install issue or your folder locations are incorrect.

I received an email that Moultipass replied, but that reply seems to have been deleted. It seems like his problem has been solved and was an installation issue. As for RayC he hasn't responded in nearly 2 weeks, but I'll leave this thread open in case he comes back.

Yes, absolutely Simon, you put me on the right track with this story of bad installation, whereas my Biab has been in concrete for several years. After a clean and quick reinstallation, the plugin runs like a rocket. No more worries. You were right, hence a big thank you.
Actually, I removed Biab from my C: drive, so everything runs from my new Biab SSD. As a result, everything is grouped for the directories and it works perfectly, I'm not touching anything anymore

Honestly I always suggest running BB and the RealTracks/Drums from the same drive - it's simpler, and avoids future problems (Windows likes to change drive letters at times, for example).

So, in your expert opinion, is installing the content libraries (RealTracks, RealDrums) in a separate drive a nice feature or an user error?

As a feature, it worked in previous versions.

Regarding Biab, I never had any problems with RTs and RDs on a separate drive.
In my case, the issue was with the Plugin, which seemed to be lost (it couldn't generate anything, in both Reaper and Studio One). I admit that I was also using 4 Symlinks for the main folders (Demos, Soloists, Songs and Lessons, and Styles), as I thought it would save time by launching everything from my C: drive.

Since I deleted everything and did a simple installation only on the 2025 SSD, the plugin is working fine. Is it related? Probably.
For everyone whose separate drive is working, don't change anything.

Simon rightly pointed out that working on external drives without explicitly assigning fixed letters could also cause a loss of bearings in Biab, particularly with Symlinks, but I had specifically assigned fixed letters to my drives.

It is a nice feature, and it works as intended - however, as Moultipass found out it does not like working with symlinks, and like I mentioned Windows likes to change drive letter when it feels like it. I typically suggest running everything from one location for that reason, since something simple like plugging in two hard drives in a different order can be enough to change drive letters.
