I think it just sounds like a lot of work.

We've all got our preferred ways to work, so what is hard for one person can be perfectly natural for someone else. I just need to start learning some new tricks. wink

That fiddle part was perfect. It really came out nicely and I've listened to it 3 times so far!
Thanks! smile

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

As we oft mentioned we are fans of open airy mixes with good soundstages.
Your subtle dynamics and mix nuances are great. This has it all.
Coming from you, that means a lot!

Interesting harmony and your HIGH skill level shines through on these vocals.
I'm glad you liked it!

I suspect most of the "skill" from working with the vocalist has more to do with writing to a specific singer. If it doesn't sound good, I'll find another singer who can sing it, or fix it so it sounds good with the signer I picked.

Love the write up and ALL the details.
Ha! That was the short version. wink

We had to google Glenn Tilbrook. smile

Hi David.

This is incredibly impressive.
Your use of Synth V and your production are outstanding.
The drums had me transfixed.
Listening to Oscar also had me transfixed.
Was this the standard Oscar or the deluxe version?
You've really got vocal modelling down pat!
These vocals sounded real framed by a superb backing.
I loved it smile

Just reading the credits I knew you put a lot of work into this. It turned out nicely in the end.

I totally get that back and forth thing..... render out what you think is "the" vocal take and then you notice something that starts sounding a bit off, perhaps awkward..... back to the drawing board and repeat the process..... but it is worth picking the nits almost every time.

This has an innocent, almost bluegrass, folksy kind of swing to it.... I liked it.

Pretty song with a nice message David!! The V synth has been great for you since you write some really nice stuff but don't sing. This is really well put together and produced/mixed!! Nice job!!! Take care. Greg

David,

It's a very refreshing and beautiful song that reminds me of Save Your Heart For Me, a hit by Gary Lewis & The Playboys in the 60s.
The choice of vocal synth also suits the melody perfectly.
So you've got a new computer, haven't you? That's great.
It takes a lot of time to replace all your software, but once you're done you'll have a very comfortable environment.
I also bought a new Mac a year ago.
It's very comfortable now.
You'll be able to make a lot of songs from now on.
I'm looking forward to it.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

This was the Deluxe version, although I'm not sure I used many of the alternate voice modes.

The possibility of fine-tuning something forever is always a problem - especially when it's something that I suspect no one but me will ever hear. wink

I was watching a demo of SynthV by Kanru, the guy who made it. His method is to get the general contours right, and then start doing random regenerations on the bits he's not entirely happy with.

Which isn't too far off how I generate BiaB solos. laugh

Excellent - just what I was aiming for.

Yes, I'd finally gotten tired of it running my DAW so slowly, and I was worried the hard drive would crash!

Hey David..I had to scroll back to find one of your song posts, and I wasn’t disappointed. It’s a compact, well-crafted “simple” song, but for me, the gold is in your backstory and the details about your production. It’s way more technical than I could ever be, but there’s always much to learn by “sitting alongside” another writers process. Most grateful for not only the resulting composition and production, but for all the insights…I’m sure I will glean something that I can use in my quite-different work approach.
