Girl From Accounting (updated 7 Feb to reflect bass EQ edits per RayC suggestion)

An ode to modern workplace romance. We had an earlier tune, "Got Too Close Tonight" that also referenced a girl from accounting. I like to think of this song as the sequel with a happy ending. THANKS in advance for any listens/comments!

R.W. Davis: Lyrics
D.A. Hughes: Vocals, harmony arrangement
Me: Music, melody, arrangement, production, mix, master, rhythm guitars with pushed chords on beat 3-and
AI: None

Technical stuff. BiaB pushed chords seldom sound great to me, so here I played the two panned rhythms guitars that accent chord changes on beat 3-and. None of the BiaB instruments are pushed in BiaB. Used a combination of techniques to let the BiaB instruments blend in without fighting the guitar pushes as noted below. The three BiaB guitars come in in the 2nd half of the song.

Style is _SZFLSH2.STY (British Invasion Fast)
RealTracks in style: ~1010:Bass, Electric, BritInvasion Ev 140 (no pushes, chord change on beat 4)
RealTracks in style: ~499:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm StoneZ Flash 1 Ev 140 (no pushes, no chord changes, hold on beat 1)
RealTracks in style: ~505:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm StoneZ Flash 2 Ev 140 (no pushes, no chord changes, hold on beat 1)
RealTracks in song: 3930:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm AltRockFastBrightHiArp Ev 150 (no pushes, no chord changes, Melodyne edits on beat 4 where needed)
RealDrums in style:RockClassicBritEv^1-a:Snare, Closed HiHat , b:Snare, Ride Bell (no pushes, low pass to quiet the sizzle)

GIRL FROM ACCOUNTING
I got my first job in advertising
My first boss told me “No fraternizing
You don’t wanna get caught flirting with the staff
No one’s here to provide support on your behalf
So just stay….far away.”

I kept my first job in advertising
Even when they went through some downsizing
I obeyed all the rules and never wavered
I eagerly showed them how much I had labored
And I stayed….and got paid

Then a girl from accounting, she walked by my desk
And although I wore blinders, my heart beat my chest
And I took a second glance
As she watered the plants
And as she gazed out the window, I wanted to shout
But knowing the rules, I took a timeout
But when she turned around and smiled, well, I knew all was lost
I had to turn in my notice, say goodbye to the boss
Cos some things only come around once in your life
They’re more important than working from nine to five
And this might be the girl of all my dreams
Stuck here chained to the adding machines

I lost my first job in advertising
They all said it was rather surprising
I had the dumb luck working with an angel
One of those things that put my job in danger
I can’t stay….one more day

Cos a girl from accounting, she walked by my desk
And although I wore blinders, my heart beat my chest
And I took a second glance
As she watered the plants
And as she gazed out the window, I wanted to shout
But knowing the rules, I took a timeout
But when she turned around and smiled, well, I knew all was lost
I had to turn in my notice, say goodbye to the boss
Cos some things only come around once in your life
They’re more important than working from nine to five
And this might be the girl of all my dreams
Stuck here chained to the adding machines

Ron,

This sounds awesome! Love the guitars and drums - it sounds huge. Great vocals and harmony.

The mix is great and it really punches through my speakers.

Excellent song and production!

Be careful with accountants - if you split up later, you'll have a problem smile

Nice upbeat song with a good singer, great choice of instruments and the production sounds professional.
Really well done!

Oh -chuckle- yeah. The title evokes a lot. Yeah, great job on the pushes --I agree with the deficiency in BiaB, but you manage a great workaround. Love the lyrics, Ron. Yep happy ending. Great story --wll written and crafted into this gem. Much enjoyed!!

Enjoy whatever happens!

Thanks, Bob! Yeah, Dusty really nailed this one (again). Originally produced this song with a single guitar, but doubling the guitar and panning hard left and right created a cool effect. There's also a plate reverb on the left channel guitar and panned right adding to the ambience. Was concerned it might be too cluttered, so reassuring to hear that it sounds good to you. Whew!

Great song and theme - very enjoyable - but I thought the drums were a bit heavy for it.

Jangle power pop meets Mersey Beat.
A cooooool sound.
Needs some cut through on the bass - a small peak at 3K and a small cut at 120 & 72 should help it a bit.
Funny narrative too.

Cheers

Hello, good song. If we can no longer court girls at work, we might as well stay at home and I'll still be single.

Hey DC,

Man this is another great work and an indie pop classic!

I really like your productions! They're always so perky, and fun and uplifting.

Love everything about this man, but again especially the fact that it's just super fun all the way around.

Nice.

THANKS, Marty! Can't tell you how many songs I've rewritten to avoid BiaB pushes, but it's not a small number. Definitely on my wishlist for future updates. smile Glad you enjoyed the tune!

Mario, THANKS for the listen! Went back and forth on whether the drum track was too much, but finally committed to it when I punched up the fill after the "my heart beats my chest" lyric. Glad you appreciated the humor, my lyricist can be wicked funny...

Solid.
You guys have a great "signature sound".
Excellent job on the guitars - pushes well done (a weakness in the program, imo)
Excellent mix.

Very much enjoyed.

"AI: None" - just the right amount.

Lol, I worked for a very large corporation and workplace romance was a dangerous endeavor. This song describes such situations really good. Enjoyed my listen.

Hey Ron,

Your signature sound is one of my favorites! Dusty always works his magic on the vocals. And, of course, you folks always give him a great musical performance to work with. In other words, ya'll work great together!

I particularly liked the drums.

I guess you could say, "Everything in this song adds up perfectly."

Best to you,

Alan

Thanks, James! My lyricist will often spin his lyrics into unexpected places, so I was curious about how he was going to wrap this up, too. smile Was delighted to get a happy ending. Glad you enjoyed it!
