Home At Last

Hey All, it has been a long time since I have posted a song on here.
This song was written by a friend of mine, Buddy Durrett. I never recorded it until now, He passed away from covid a few years back.
The song is called "Home at last".

I mainly use real band and then edit the instruments in my DAW, Samplitude ProX8.
The backing vocals were record by Dirk van der Merwe (Airgigs) He always does a great job on backing vocals!

The instruments used were:
RT3549 Bass, Electric, AmericanaShuffleSteveAB Sw.WAV
RealDrums-NashvilleRadioShuffle^2-Stck,Hat.WAV
RT3174 Guitar, Acoustic, Rhythm CampfireSwing Sw 120.WAV
RT3702 Guitar, Electric, Rhythm AmericanaShuffleBrent Sw 120.WAV
RT1283 Guitar, Electric, Soloist CountryShuffleBrent Sw 120.WAV
RT617 Pedal Steel BG
RT674 Organ, B3, Background Blues Roadhouse Ev 120.WAV

I pray that I did his song justice smile any comments are much appreciated on what to change and what to keep.

Here is the link for a quick listen:
Home At Last

LYRICS:
Verse One:
Oh I've Been Walking Through Life Day By Day
Always Keeping To That Straight And Narrow Way
I Have Been Watching And Waiting Hallelujah For That Day
When I'll Be Going Home At Last, Home At Last

Verse Two:
Yes I Know When That Final Trumpet Sounds
All The Saints Are Raising Joyous From The Ground
In Faithful Answer To That Blast, Standing Firm And Holding Fast
We Will Join Them Home At Last, Home At Last

Chorus:
Home At Last, Glory, Glory, I'll Be Going Home At Last
I'll Be Leaving All My Troubles In The Bygone Past
I've Been Waiting Patiently, To See The One Who Set Me Free
When I'm Home At Last, I'm Home At Last

Verse Three:
One Day, He'll Take Me There Dear Lord.
And I Will Step Across From Jordans Stormy Shore.
Lead By The Ones That Have Gone On, They've Been Waiting There So Long
For Me To Join Them, Home At Last, Home At Last

Chorus:
Home At Last, Glory, Glory, I'll Be Going Home At Last
I'll Be Leaving All My Troubles In The Bygone Past.
I've Been Waiting Patiently, To See The One Who Set Me Free
When I'm Home At Last, I'm Home At Last

Home At Last, Glory, Glory, I'll Be Going Home At Last
I'll Be Leaving All My Troubles In The Bygone Past.
I've Been Waiting Patiently, To See The One Who Set Me Free
When I'm Home At Last, I'm Home At Last

I've Been Waiting Patiently, To See The One Who Set Me Free
When I'm Home At Last, I'm Home At Last

When I'm Home At Last, I'm Home At Last
When My Stay Here Is Over , Home At Last

Hello Riddle,

Welcome to the forum!

First, sorry to hear your friend passed.

This is a great classic country song. Two singers from the past immediately came to mind: as I listened: Merle Haggard and Lefty Frizell.

Nice vocals. Your harmony singer is very good. I grew up playing lead guitar in the 60s. I played a lot of music similar to this.

I enjoyed my listen very much! Looking forward to more from you. Wishing you the best.

Alan

Quality all the way around! What I like best is the so very joyful chorus…it sounds just like what the lyric says. Great inspiration for the only journey that really counts. Great tribute to your friend!

Hi,

I don't know much about "Country" music but I do know quality when I hear it and this is definitely a quality production - good song, well sung and good chorus.

Best Regards
Nigel

Oh, Buddy is resting comfortable with a huge smile onhis face. I got chillls when the chorus hit my ears. A terrific mix and, man, those background vocals are outstanding. This gem gets brighter as it grows and I love following the light. All the best in there, Danny, and all the best to you, sir.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Disclaimer: You're new here, so you may not know that I'm THE anti-expert when it comes to country music.
That being said, this is a beautiful song, and for us Europeans, it's what country should be: pedal steel, 2 guitars and 2 great singers singing the most beautiful harmonies.

Danny, sorry to hear about your friend.

This is country at its best.
Outstanding vocal - great chorus!
Super backing band.
This is a fantastic song

PS - " any comments are much appreciated on what to change and what to keep", this is so simple to answer: change nothing and keep everything!

I arrived early to a restaurant.
The manager asks, "do you mind waiting a bit?"
I said no.
"Good", he said. "Take these drinks to table 3"

Thanks B.D. The Pedal was an afterthought and seemed to give it the sound I was looking for.

So sorry for your loss. Beautiful song and touching tribute. Super arrangement and mix, and both your lead vocals and Dirk's harmonies are perfection. Love the mix and how clearly the vocals stand out even though there's a lot going on. Super job!
