Basin Street Blues

It has been covered by hundreds of artists including: Bob Wills, The Mills Brothers, Shirley Bassey, Louis Prima, Dave Brubeck, Ray Charles, Miles Davis, Sam Cooke, Dr. John, Ella Fitzgerald, Harry Connick Jr.

Vocals & Piano - Nigel Spiers
Drums - Brian Fullen (Nashville Brushes HillBilly Swing)
Tuba - Brad Muirhead (1792)
Piano - John Jarvis (2649)
Trombone - Dennis Esson (1969)
Trumpet - Al Matheson (1975)
Banjo - Ron Thompson (1788)

Nigel, nicely arranged and mixed. Love your loose, playful vocals. We spent a magical period of our lives within walking distance of the French Quarter, and you've definitely captured the joyous spirit of the Big Easy...

Hi DC Ron,

Thanks for your comments.

I'm very jealous that you spend time in New Orleans.

I don't know the original or any of the remakes, so I can't judge the song itself, but man, your vocals are really good.
Enjoyed my listen a lot!

I love it!!! Your voice is tailored made for this kinda song. I, too, can hear some of Louis Armstrong in here ... mixed with whoever did the voice over for Baloo of The Jungle Book smile It's genuinely meant as a compliment, so I hope you take it thus, because that's the only way it's meant in! Seriously, superb vocal performance, definitely one of your best, if not indeed your best. Bravo, sir ... impressed.

Ahhh. Saw this go by the other day, but couldn't catch it --now catching up is so fine. Oh, yeah, Nigel, you got that voice for these. I love Harry Connick Jr's take, and this one sings right up there with any one. Great rendition all around!

Enjoy whatever happens!

Hi, Nigel.

It's got all the earmarks of your prior productions - clear mix, solid vocal performance, and just plain fun to listen to.

Excellent! smile

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Echo all the complimentary comments…one thing that really caught my attention—you somehow “found” licks in the RTs that paralleled the melody line..something I’ve never been able to successfully accomplish…so effective and perfect for the arrangement..thoroughly enjoyed this!

Hi Nigel,

I've told you multiple times that you have the perfect voice for all these PD songs from the first half of the 21st century. I'll say again - that voice!

Great selection of backing tracks - put it right in the era.

Your vocal on this one has a slight touch of Louie Armstrong.

Excellent.

Alan

PS: The ending was a bit abrupt. But it didn't distract my enjoyment of my listen.

Loved this, your vocal was perfect and the BIAB jazz tracks are so on point. I've improvised to this tune often on my chromatic harmonica, it's great for soloing. Couldn't have been done better, kudos for your fine effort here

Hi Tano Music,

Yes it was quite time consuming hunting through the multiple Trombone tracks to find the required notes for the riffs and then cutting and pasting them. But very enjoyable.

Thanks for your comments.

Best Regards
Nigel
