THE BALLAD OF WAYLON JONES

Great instrumentation in this song. Love the way it builds up dynamically and the backing vocals work a treat.
Some favourite Waoist Adages: #1: Play on the Way. #13: Ask not for whom the flower blooms, it blooms for you. #58: Bring consciousness to it. #63: On the road to effortlessness, effort must be made. #92: Be Love Now, the rest will come on its own.

Well that was mean sounding, interesting and well thought out. Reminded me of a Tony Joe White and his "Steamy Windows" voice but with a more traditional instrumental.

Elliott, this song is AFF, i.e. Absolutely Freaking Fantastic. Love the groove but best of all was your vocal Great guitar and organ chops IMHO this is your best to date.
PS - what EastWest program contains those singers? They sound great in this song.
My momma didn't raise a fool. And if she did it, was one of my brothers.

Super song, Elliott! The extended dual guitar (reso?) intro is very cool. The last half kicks it up an appropriate notch or three. Nice arrangement as always and clear mix. FWIW, I like your vocals here a lot, and much more than your other human and virtual collaborators. They really make the song come alive.

I won’t repeat all the positives that others have posted..I had to research your main character to find out if it was a pure invention on your part, but I see it’s an existing fictional character..your idea, about creating a “4-min movie”—what a great framework for starting your creative work—I think that is absolutely a legit way to trigger your writing! in light of that objective, I’d say you are very successful—in all aspects—-style, delivery, lyric, feel—it all fed into the “script” of your little film. Excellent example of how a songwriter tells a complete story in the timespan of a few minutes. Well done!!

I used the name Waylon Jones because it sounded right for the character I created; southern, backwoods, south side of the tracks. Anyone here a Batman Fan? Subliminally, I borrowed it from the Batman Villain: "Killer Croc".

Wow, that is a great narrative!
And your vocal so well delivers it. Great sparse mix and band.
Not much more to say as it has already received great informative reviews.
Enjoyed it!

Oh, yeah. That's how it's done.
Strong write, cool vocals. Chops all over the place.

Raw and dirty, with killer vocals. I didn't know you could sing so bluesy. Including swearing. Exactly my thing. I love it. More please!

Catchy title grabbed me and the song wouldn't let me go --cuz I wasn't really trying to leave. Man, you're playing all those guitars. Elliott? Love the playing, and I always prefer your singing. You always provide the perfect lyrics, and I reallylike the way fill this one with dynamics that build the song to a flavorful pitch. Dang, you worked those BGVs to perfection by giving them freedom to "feel" the song. A favorite for sure. Inspite of the ending, you'll be back with more like this, right?

This song sure is a "hamburger with the works" It's got everything, and then a little more. Great write.

At first I said to myself: we've returned to the roots of the blues but halfway through it seemed very serious. I enjoyed listening to the bass and the rest of course. Great choirs. laurent
