It’s been awhile. I was about to post this song in it’s 9th iteration. Then I saw some posts about Suno. So I gave it a try. Great vocals, however there is a lot of things that could be much better. There is a lot of unwanted artifacts and crazy noises especially in their instrumental tracks. This requires a lot time with filters, gates, and general massaging. Their tempo map leaves a lot to be desired. Reminds me of a meter challenged drummer I used to work with. After many hours I finally got it to point where I thought I could stop. Using the ACW I added a couple of Real Tracks and I added some short guitar licks for the signature and fills and on the outro. I’ve been nursing a torn ligament in my left thumb that may never be the same. So I grit my teeth and power through it. No AI lyrics for me! However I did crossover to the dark side for the vocals. Thanks in advance for your time spent listening. https://tommyadamsmusic.com/track/4158794/on-blue-highwayshttps://on.soundcloud.com/VmZTxzz7VAv9Vq5S7RealTracks 2046:Piano, Acoustic, Solo-Accompaniment CountryPopJohn Ev 120 RealTracks 1850:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm PopShiningGrittyMuted Ev 120 Royalty Free Loops Recorded in Logic Pro X Plug Ins : Nectar 3, Neutron 4, Ozone 10, Tonal Balance, Waves LinMB, Waves, L3-LL Multi Limiter, Logic Pro Metering, Scuffam Amps S-Gear, Telecaster, Tom Adams On Blue Highways Busted up beaten down bruised battered and torn The last time this old cowboy cried was the day he was born All those cold and lonely nights the never-ending days Long lost dreams and broken hearts left on blue highways Black jeans white hat didn’t stay that way for long Like the sky this old rodeo life just goes on and on All those cold and lonely nights the never-ending days Long lost dreams and broken hearts left on blue highways Left her back in Abilene where she waits for me I don’t know when I’ll be back I guess we’ll just have to see All those cold and lonely nights the never-ending days Long lost dreams and broken hearts left on blue highways ©2025 Thomas Adams

Wow! It has been a long time! Great to see you back.
Excellent song, lyrics & mix. I am amazed at the AI vocals. You did a great job with them - very natural / pro sounding.

Tom, the AI discussion is too foreign for me,so I don’t understand it all, but if you are saying that this ISN’T a real singer—then I’d have to say you’ve done remarkable work! With all other aspects of this track being top-notch, the vocal is right up there. Overall, an education in solid writing, performance, production…thanks for posting…I’ll take some lessons from listening in.

Great to see you back, Tom.
A good write.
The AI is really well done. Sounds like it came out a Nashville studio with a seasoned session singer. Can't tell if there is any you in there.(or BIAB for that matter)
Hope you are well.

Hope you are well. Hey floyd. Hope everything is good with you. I agree it sounds like they sampled some Nashville guy. As a matter of fact they are currently being sued by some of the big record labels for doing exactly that. We’ll have to see how that plays out. Regarding your comments; Real tracks-2046 & 1850 The piano was used to cover up some noise that I couldn’t remove specifically at the end of the 1st chorus, turnaround and the 2nd verse. It was all over the outro. I thought it was quite loud. When the music drops down in the bridges the muted chunk guitar is easy to hear. I only played a few licks on the outro where there were holes. I tried to double the signature intro to thicken it but it is low in the mix. My left hand is messed up. I spent a long time getting those 2 real tracks to line up but I guarantee they are in there. Thanks for listening and Happy upcoming Birthday! Tom

Great country song. Really nice production all around.

Tom, welcome back! Super song, nice arrangement and tasteful fills. Those vocals do capture what I think of as today's modern country sound remarkably well. Like the harmonies, too. Great job!
Thanks for describing the work required behind the curtain. You certainly achieved some wonderful results.
And good luck with the ligament recovery!

Missed ya, Tom, although I do hear you a lot. Hey, I hear ya about Ai and the human need for being creative. Man, ain't no AI could do this with such flare. What a cool song. Yeah, you found one of them can't-get-enough voices, and you wrote a terrific songs for it to shine. Cool harmony, too. Only road-worn experience can write lyrics this well.

Tom, sorry to hear about your hand. I feel your pain pushing through as I am doing the same with my arthritic hands. Anyway I am glad you are back to posting.

Welcome back! The lyric brought forth the expression from the old real country days, i.e., "true life blues." The work that went into your production is indeed impressive! Over the last couple of years here on the forum we have listened in amazement as the use of synth vocals has become exponentially better and better and Suno has taken it to yet another level. And On Blue Highways is an excellent example of that level. Okay, you tried out the Dark Side but as you likely expected us to say, we miss your vocals! Great to see and hear you and best to you - especially to the thumb. J&B

I found it extremely difficult to add the real tracks as the tempo is far from rock solid. I may still use the vocals for a few things but I will return to singing again for sure. Thanks for putting up with me!

Hi, Tom. Vocals are good, although every other section it's like I'm suddenly listening to a slightly different but very similar country singer. The arrangement works very well. I enjoyed it!

Sorry to say, but I was asked to comment also posts of the others. So for my taste as a country music fan specially the vocals didn't feel real. There wasn't emotional connection to the message of the lyrics. Also I heard disturbing wobble like, when using RealTune in Reaper. I'm against the use of AI in making music as a hobby. If we let computers to do the music, where is the fun of making music?

Tom, it's good to see you back. I was wondering about you the other day, then I saw this pop up this morning. Hope your thumb gets better.
I started using AI about a year ago as well as synth voices.... It's pretty amazing what it can do.
I agree with you on the tempo of Suno and other AI.... it's really bad and takes a lot of work on both the front end as well as in the final mix to get things to line up. Even using ACW is a chore. Aside from the variation in the tempo, it often uses a decimal point like 92.4 bpm.... I mean really? You might want to look into Synth V as well. It is a synth and if you take your time and use a couple of tricks, it will sound so close to a human it's creepy. The Suno voices still tend to have that artificial artifact haze around them in places. I often convert mine to Synth V. And another thing, the key. Suno likes to play in "strange" keys like those flat keys. I can play in those keys too, but it's really not convenient.
Like you and what you did here, I find it's difficult to add BB real tracks that fit well with the style and often I only use one or two (as you did here) as fillers.
I liked this song. the production is good. Good job on the write. Keep on using these new tools. Some folks are adamantly against AI but I think it's a huge game changer and will be very useful going forward.
Good to see you back.
You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.comAdd nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both. The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

David, thanks for stopping by. I hear what you’re hearing. This was my first attempt using AI. I have a lot to learn. Sorry to say, but I was asked to comment also posts of the others. So for my taste as a country music fan specially the vocals sounded industrial, plastic country. It didn't feel real. Specially it didn't match the feelings of the lyrics. I'm against the use of AI in making music as a hobby. I only use BiaB for instruments I can't play my self and try to make as much possible my self. If I let computers to do the music, where is the fun of making music? But luckily for you maybe most people like just this kind of not too genuine country. Lol!!! Luckily for me I made a pretty good living playing this kind of plastic not too genuine country music for many, many years. Now excuse me while I go scrape the cowsh** off my boots. Good luck on your music. Keep playing.
