Sometimes It Just Doesn't Matter

Here's one I cobbled together between midnight and 7:00 am this morning.

The drums are slightly louder than I thought they would be. Let me know if they bother you as you listen.

I replaced the drums and bass RTs from the original style and then added the lead guitar and a 2nd synth for the choruses but not the verses.

Here are the folks who made it happen:

File:Sometimes It Just Doesn't Matter.SGU

Style is _PIANOLN.STY (Piano Lane Visceral Pop Ballad)

Alan,

This is GORGEOUS.

The drums are musical. They sound real. A real player.
A Stunning guitar lead. Obviously put together by Someone Who Knows What They Are Doing.
Bass sounds Good.
Nice bed of piano/strings

Might be one of your best. But that's hard to say because they are all so damn good.

Floyd,

You just cost me 40 or 50 bucks - that's what those bigger hats will cost.

I'm really not sure how to reply to such a heart-warming and wonderful review. I hope a very sincere "Thank you, Floyd!" is adequate. I'm actually stunned by your words.

Alan, Floyd said it best "Obviously put together by Someone Who Knows What They Are Doing."
This is simply an outstanding piece of music.
Everything is perfect.
Loved it

PS - the drums sound great, no need to mess with them IMHO.

Alan, wow, this sounds GREAT! Love the lead guitar and where you have it in the mix. Drums are perfect to my ears. Those synth pads are really nice. Very vibrant overall mix. You really do the most amazing instrumental work.

I do my best work before 7AM. But I dunno about that midnight starting time...

Very nice ballad Alan. I really like the choice of instruments, Piano, big deep bass and the synth pads. The volume of the drums doesn't bother me.

"It just doesn't matter!" "It just doesn't matter!" That's the chant i do for then with folks when they spend too much time worrying over something they can't change. We call it The Meatballs chant --from the movie.

Cool, Alan. This one has it's own way of inspiring the listener by reminding them what's truly important. Such a fine, relaxing feel with so much passion as a reward. It just doesn't matter if the drums are too loud (which they are not) because the tune will shine through. Really enjoyed it, Alan.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Mario,

You make me blush with such kind words. I'm delighted you enjoyed it. Glad to hear folks think the drums are fine as is. I like drums and bass to be a little louder than many folks do.

Thank you very much for your very kind review.

Hey Marty,

So nice to hear from you!

I'm often asked how I get a song constructed and posted in a matter of several hours. The simple answer is I'm not a perfectionist. I'm very aware of the limits of my skills, and when my work reaches that level, and I've tried several times to make it better, but it doesn't get better, that's when I'm finished. I don't obsess over the tiniest little things in the pursuit of perfection. None of us are perfect and I'm okay with achieving the best I can do.

Okay, off my soap box. I guess what I tried to say is that next step to perfection is beyond my reach, and it just doesn't matter to me.

Thank you so much for the very nice words. I always appreciate and value your comments.

Best to you.

Alan

SO beautiful, wistful, and melancholic. Love it, Alan. And I don't know how you do it, but you create songs which are so melodious and appeal to the ear on a melodic level, so well. REALLY beautiful. Well done.

Hello, James ...

You are always so wonderfully nice to my music. I sincerely appreciate that. I appreciate it more than you probably realize.

As for as how I do it: The mood I'm in at the time I sit down to put a song together determines where I want to go with it. Chords come to me naturally. I neither read nor write notation appreciably.. I can hear what i want to write before I actually do it. I type in the chord patter, find a style, and then change out the instruments as needed.

I guess that's the short version.

Again, many thanks.

Alan

I paid no attention to the drums because the guitar grabbed my attention from the beginning. Great solo. It would be great if you could find an artist to produce. You would be great at it.

That's very kind of you to say! Years ago, that might have been a good idea to pursue. But at nearly 80 years old, probably not. But it's sincerely flattering that you would say that. Thank you so much for that!

Alan,

I wish I could "cobble together" something this beautiful that quickly! But you are in fact a master when it comes to the assembling of realtracks into a very cohesive sounding piece of music!
The drums sound fine to my ears! the piano mixing and panning sounds really great!
An overall very high-quality track!

Thanks, TB

You are much too kind, Torrey. But I sure do appreciate it.

Chord patterns and basic melody come to me fairly easily. I walk around with that stuff in my head half of the time. I jusrt don't have the time to bring mnuch of them to fruition - even with my Neanderthal-like recording process.

Thank you for the listen and truly encouraging words.

Hope you are doing fine recovering from your medical event a few months back. Wishing you the vert best,

It sounds great to us Al.

The drums are fine. Often folks mix RD's low and lose that IMO needed snare punch that we hear in all the genres we listen to.
And that solo guitar is very, very expressive.

It's all been said.
This is a great showcase in the showcase of the power of BiaB productions in talented hands.

Enjoyed it!

You folks are always so kind and encouraging with your comments. Well, the hands aren't so talented anymore (advancing focal dystonia), but the ears are still doing a lot of fine tuning.

I, too, like the bass and drum tracks to be fairly prominent in the mix.

Take care.

Thanks a bunch, Scott. I never listened to Aerosmith - it was all country back then - it paid good and live venues were everywhere in the St.Louis area back then.

Thanks for the listen and kind words.

Alan, you are great arranger, engineer and producer who knows how to pull the very best out of BIAB. This is a perfectly crafted piece of easy listening pleasure. No one does it better than you. Always a fan, Tom

This was beautifully wrote, arranged, and mixed. Reminded me of the beginning of "Dream On" by Aerosmith.
I loved it.

Tom,

Thank you so much. I'm not sure I can live up to all that, but I'll try like hell. There are two kinds of music, which are almost diametrically opposed, that really enjoy listening to when I just want to kick back and relax: (1) music like this. (2) Anything by Ray Price, particularly his "Night Life" from the early 60s.

This song just fell into place, as my grandfather would have said, as easily as scratching my [*****] when it itches. The chords took less than 15 minutes to formulate and enter. Track selection was about an hour. Mixing and mastering about another hour. And then about half an hour for minor tweaking (before the mastering).

Again, many thanks for all you said. And I'm a big fan of your music.

Alan

Trax,

Thank you very much for the really nice comments. Sometimes I get it right.

Someone else mentioned Aerosmith and "Dream On." I didn't listen to much rock music at that time as I was playing country three to five nights a week. But I have heard Post Modern Jukebox's Jazz version of it - I think Morgan James was featured on the vocal.

Again, thanks very much.

Alan
