So I understand this also, the original question should have been about how to play along using a stringed instrument with the capo on the second fret (making it sound 2 half steps higher). Correct? Write the song in its original key of E, then use the -2 transposition to make it show on screen as if it were in D. Play along and the sound remains in E.

The question is not "Set D and hope to generate E". It's how to write it in E and hear it in E, but see it as if it were in D.
