I always work on one instrument at a time and when I have located the instrument I like, I move onto the next instrument (I suspect you already know this approach).

If that method doesn't suit you, try opening more than one instance of BIAB and see if that gives you extra flexibility. Just go to the \bb\ folder and double-click on BBW64.EXE.

If a second instance of the program doesn't open, you will need to go into Options and on the bottom right of the first window you encounter when you open Preferences, make sure that "Allow multiple instance of BIAB" is selected.
