Sorry folks, right now I only have time to post this, but I see some new faces here along with old friends posting new ones. You know i'll be back to listen to them ASAP. Just spent a few days in hospital and... well, the good news is my lungs and brain are okay. Enough about me. My Old Country on Soundcloud My Old Country on YouTube Everyone has an “old country” even if they live in the same house where they were born. This song is embracing it without giving it too much credit or blame. Style is _UKES110.STY (Folk Swing w/ Ukulele) RealTracks in song: 408:Guitar, Resonator, Background Allis Ev 120 RealTracks in style: ~1142:Ukulele, Strumming FolkSwing Sw 110 RealTracks in song: 4045:Piano, Acoustic, Rhythm ContradanceReelSwing Sw 135 RealTracks in song: 4199:Guitar, Acoustic, Rhythm SongwriterGentleRnBChop Sw 110 RealDrums in Song: NashvilleRadioShuffle^3-Stck,Rd RealDrums in style:NashvilleBrushesHillbillySwing: a: Sidestick, Brushes b: Brushes, Stick was used in the redesign in EZDDrummer. (zydecoal) Bill Davis added pedal steel and sang harmony and I played bass and sang --also played the role of a few neighbors. And a big thanks to Bill for taking my harmony guys for a ride on the same bus his guys rode. Bill is relatively a neighbor, and My Old CountryWell, we used to keep our doors unlocked, and keys were kept in cars. The streets were meant for walking nights when we could see the stars. Often we would close some streets to party on the block. Then quiet nights spent on the porch where we'd just sit and talk. Well, I love my old country, yeah, the way it used to be. Neighbors helping neighbors like one big family. Old party lines on neighbors' phones were used for catching up, and all the guys at the barber shop played chess and other stuff. Well, the air outside was crisp and clean and clothes hung out to dry. Sheets back then smelled of nature's charm, and dreams could reach the sky. Love the write. A lifetime of memories captured in a handful of words. Songwriting as it should be.
Well sung - fun vocals.
Good BAND. Bill's steel is sweet.

I've already said all the good things I thought about your song, Marty. The chorus makes you want to sing and the lyrics are very positive. In short, it's a very good song. Take care my friend. Laurent

A great taste of Americana or Italiana or Germania or whatever your old country used to be...the world has become like the "old gray mare" she ain't what she used to be but songs like this do remind us how good we had it and perhaps remembering that could help us return the good parts of that lovely picture...really nice as usual...love the pedal steel...made it sound like "old country".

Wonderful song with halcyon lyrics and a comfortable melody. Worth several listens. Should we be worried about you? Lungs and brain okay, what about the rest of you? PM me if you'd rather. Bob

What a fun song! Super vocals and lusciously ragged harmonies. Nice band, and excellent pedal steel and bass. The grace note at the end made my smile turn into a laugh. Cool message, expertly rendered.

Hey Marty,
Lots of nostalgia in those words. And yeah, things are much different from when we grew up - a loss of innocence and respect. Your neighborhood choir rocks! Your songs are always so much fun to listen to.
Hope all is well in the big picture and you're back to full steam real soon. Take care, my friend.

Nice one. The music suites the lyrics. Specially I liked the mandolin in rhythm and harmonies in chorus. One thing I would add: banjo pickin'.

Marty. As long as we have ok lungs and brain that's a good percentage of our functioning ability. I wish you more continuing good health.
Your song is joyful and well mixed as usual and the lyrics an apt comment on what most of us feel, although I remember other things, like where I was born there was coal dust in the air and on the washing that was hung out to dry. When I lived in London there was traffic and factory smoke pollution. I didn't breathe much clean air until I moved out of the towns and city. That's where all the clean air was. Nice one.

Great song 'n' theme 'n' production. So glad I was born decades before the mobile phone and locked doors! … Vibin' for your good health. We both turn 74 this year and none of us oldies can guarantee surviving another one.

From one dinosaur to another—the good ol days were so good! What I liked best about this: the gentle, simple structure that totally supported the lyric story; the chorus of “neighbors” that sounded so relaxed and realistic; and your little humorous tag at the end. So glad I tuned in!

Sorry about lumping y'all together here, but my time at the computer is still pretty limited. Not sure if anyone ever comes back for my reaction to your comments, but I always go back after commenting on your songs to see the comments of others that follow. I've learned so much from you folks. I also make a list of any new post that I haven't heard yet so as not to miss anything. Over the last (too many) days, that list is grown to 15! But I'll get to hear them all.
Bob, thanks so much. It amazes me how you're first to comment on almost every song, and the machine-like way you consistently produce such wonderfully sing-along songs yourself. Floyd, heck almost everything about you amazes me. Thanks. Love the comment about how songwriting should be. Laurent, thanks, man. Yes, sing along, my friend. You are surely a good neighbor here. Dan. Dan, Dan Dan. Yeah, if amazing isn't your middle name, your first name is TheAmazing... Thanks, Dan. Bob, Tune Monger and a student of The Bard. Thanks so much. Here i thought halcyon was a type of light bulb. You broaden my appreciation, Bob. Ray C. You know I follow you around to see all of your comments here. You've accelerated my knowledge of so much. Thanks. DC Ron, thanks for getting the idea that some of the neighbors are not really good at keeping time. At the end I was gonna add, "Key-ah-key, Call for Jeff," but most folks think Lassie started with Timmy. haha. Now there's a reference to OLD nostalgia. Alan, I can't even think of you without a smile. You actually remind me of a composite of all the best ingredients of 3 of the neighbors from when I was growing up, and you are also an amalgam of all the best friends since then.

Hi Marty.
I'm pleased to hear that you are out of hospital. This song is a great trip down memory lane. Those 'good ol' days' seem to get better as the years grow. I love how you've captured the nostalgia of less complicated times. Great imagery.
Kudos to Bill, too for his contributions! --Noel

BRNO Arri, thanks. You're so right about the banjo being the perfect fit, but I already had a uke. My original intent was to use many of the RTs BiaB supplies from all over the world, but the song lost its flavor. Hey, Torrey, you are often in my thoughts as well. The idea for the harmony is the first chorus is sung by the band playing outdoors in the neighborhood. Then each succeeding chorus had more neighbors singing along --some of whom had no sense of timing. Thanks, Vic. Hey, we have that in common too. I grew up in coal country, but fortunately we lived "out in the countrty" where the air was cleaner. Glad you moved to the country to save your lungs. You put them to good use inyour songs. Thanks for all, Chay. Haha, I am older than you are naw-nuh-nah-na-nah-naw. Turn 75 next month. My brother, who is one year older, and I are shattering the old Straub-male record of 67. Thanks, Audio Track, Never learned your name, but I learned to appreciate your comments. We had an ice-cream truck, a milk truck, and once a week the ragman blowing his hand-held horn around the neighborhood in his homemade "truck." But our roads were usually pretty muddy, so the egg-lady used a horse-drawn cart to deliver her goods every day. Yeah, I'm old, but that's what I think of when you say "truck-load of nostalgia." Thanks, Brain. There is also hope in there that everything can be better again. You're right, Tom. Dinosaurs never became extinct; they just morphed into old-timers like us. Yeah, I wanted it to be a simple song that the whole neighborhood could sing and play.

This is one of the best songs on your new album I really enjoy the positive feel and how the melody is so catchy that the song has been playing in my head many times after waking up or when walking outdoors. "Sheets back then smelled of nature's charm/and dreams could reach the sky" is very nice description of the past. And "Neighbors helping neighbors like one big family." that's what is missing these times where money and deals define relationships instead of the sense of belonging without calculations. Bill and your bass sound great and together with the rest of the band (glad to hear also ukulele!) create a nice warm atmosphere where I love to spend my time. Your pleasant voice is a messenger from the past who tells how things were and how things could still be and hopefully keeps on delivering that message also in the years to come Janne

HogTime Ralph, thanks for the well-wishes and your comment on the song. Yeah, I saw the name HogTime and knew right away we were neighbors. Thank you, Mario. Your prayers are answered. Well, I feel like crap and can't sit in my studio for longer than a couple hours, but I have already lived a long, happy life. I'm just glad I lasted long enough to hear the stuff y'all do with this BiaB thing. Thanks, Carl. I missed a couple Sundays, but I'm catching up. Thanks for your warm wishes. Thanks, Noel. Those days are getting better; perhaps in spite of all else those memories keep a smile in our hearts. I'll pass on your kudos to Bill, too. Thanks. Hi, Eric. You are surely welcome, and thank YOU. It means a lot to us that you liked it. You're the best, Janne, my special far-away neighbor. I am so happy to think of you singing (even to yourself) as you walk through the woods. Trees and rocks understand. You're right about what's missing, the "one big family" part. We live way in the country. Not many neighbors, but they are all good ones, especially if there's a need to help one another. It would be cool to think that this message would be heard in the years to come, as you say. But right now you are one of 8 people who listen (other than our forum friends), and it's so cool for me to see the flag of Finland that represents my favorite listener on the stats page. Thanks, Tom, I was really hoping you'd tune in. Thanks for listening and I'll mention you again to Bill.

That is a sweet nostalgia in both lyric and vocals. Very good band (BiaB, Bill and you).
We share many of those same kind of memories and fortunately still have those kind of neighbors and a clothes line. 😊 Porch sitting was and is a favorite.
The video scenes reminded us of many small southern towns in our area.
Well done all around - from intro through outro. The mix sounds good on the monitors and ear pods.
Enjoyed it!

Marty,
Glad to hear you are out of the hospital and hopefully on the mend.
That's a wonderful environment. I had a similar environment as I was a child. I rememberI the neighbors often played with me. The environment has completely changed now. But it's not a difficult place to live. Watching your video made me feel warm inside. It reminded me of my childhood again. Enjoyed my listen and watch a lot.
Best regards.

Shigeki Adachi Hello, Shigeki. Thanks so much, and it makes me REAL happy you embrace your childhood like that. Many folks try to pretend it never happened, and there's actually some folks I know for whom it probably didn't. Thanks for all you do, sir. hehe

Hard to believe when we were kids backdoors to the house were never locked and cars in the driveway wide open. Never any issues..
Excellent vocal and lyric. Loved the backtrack. pedal steel and harmonies were a perfect add. Well done
