SINKHOLE

We’ve enjoyed over the years many of the “connect your own dots” lyrics posted here so we tried to write one of our own. Hope you like the effort, comments are welcome and, as always, thanks to PG Music.

V1
Been wandering around the high ground
While wondering about the low ground
It’s been so long I’ve forgotten why
Searching for a clue to where I’m bound

Ch
Now I’m floundering about in a sinkhole
Reckon my middle ground fell through
Why are those people staring down at me
Could it be they simply enjoy the view

V2
I once thought every road went somewhere
I spent too long trying to tell my own fortune
Wasted time trying to separate needing from wanting
It was easy to turn reality into distortion

Ch

SOLO

Bridge
I acted like doing nothing was something
Another recipe for failure in the making

Janice, Bud & Peter,

If Burt Bacharach wrote blues this is what it would sound like. This song has that kind of finesse...

Stunning arrangement and instrumentation. Love Peter's guitar work here. Beautiful lines with a stellar touch.

I'm often lost for words when describing any vocal by Janice. No one sings like she does. This vocal shows an artist at her absolute peak. Impeccable phrasing and timing. Again, no one does it better.

Amazing mix. Another Bud masterclass in audio production.

A new favorite!

Classic lyrics, complemented by an extraordinary backing, and outstanding vocal works.

Well done.

Man, that is a review to hang on the refrigerator! Thank you so much. The comment about Bacharach and finesse is humbling indeed. His work with Dione Warwick over several decades is stellar. And, wow, your thoughts on the vocals are hugely appreciated. I (Bud) will mention that Janice adheres to Roy Acuff’s comment on the Circle album to get it right the first time as you lose a little something each time afterwards. She lives with the song, floyd’s term 😀, and when she says she ready record then it’s one scratch and a keeper. Pardon the ramble and we hugely appreciate every word of your review!

Fabulous song, fabulously performed. Love the twin opening guitars and the accents that follow. Smashing vocals, and splendid harmonies/BGVs. It's really simple, but that BiaB bass sounds great. Cool outro. Super arrangement and mix. Bell-like master. Ya'll are amazin'. smile

Excellent!
There's nothing not to like, a killer band, killer guitars, killer production and last but not least killer vocals.

LOVED the harmonised guitar intro...what a way to start, (and continue)!.
The arrangement is elegant - no fluff - everything there is just enough.
The narrative is excellent too...perfect metaphor.
The vocals - ah, me oh my - stellar.
The final master - sounds like a bought one!

Cheers

Janice's vocal is outstanding.
Peter's guitar leads not only are fantastic the also fit the song perfectly .
Bud's mixing and mastering is second to none.
Loved it.

And you are very generous with your comments. We thank you big time as you mentioned all we could’ve hope to achieve. Glad you liked the bass. As a bass player for decades back in the day I favored simple lines and nowadays I look for them in RT’s and typically choose the simpler option and do a little track comping.

We much appreciate your time to listen and write such a nice review!

Of course the first thing to mention here is the slinky sliding vocal that brings the analogy driven lyrics to life. Nobody does it better than Janice. Once again Peter’s touch tone and note choice is a perfect addition. Very well mixed and a great listen. A wonderful addition to your top shelf catalog. Well done!

Thank you Ray. It was a fun project - well the mix did have its twists and turns. 😀 Yep us two liked those duet guitars also. Thanks for mentioning the narrative. It was a quick result of a rare visit by the elusive muse. Janice much liked your vocal comments. Glad you liked the arrangement also. I’ve gotten a bit settled in with that mastering chain lately - been just tweaking the modules per perceived needs of the tune.

We appreciate your comments!

When I read Bud, Janice and Peter, it's already a given the song is going to be the best thing I've heard in quite a while - well, since their last song. And, my expectation was delivered in spades.

I think Janice has rightfully earned the moniker as "that voice", not just a voice or the voice, but THAT voice. Every song she sings sounds like it was written just for her. Amazing!

Peter always finds the most satisfying licks on that guitar. He corrals six strings as good as anyone I've heard - and better than many of them.

And the head knob twister knows exactly which knobs to twist when to twist them, and how much to twist them. A mix-master,for sure!

Almost forgot to tell y'all I liked it a lot. Take care,

Alan

J&B and Peter,

I'm not going to try and connect any dots here but just enjoy a great sounding track!
This kind of puts me in mind of "Fooled Around And Fell In Love" but not copied in any way, totally original! Elvin Bishop would have recorded this, I'm sure! And he also would have tried to copy Peter's solo! Enjoyed the twin leads! Those are a lot harder to make sound good than people realize!
Another top shelf vocal by Janice (as always)! Her voice always sounds perfect!
Bud, you are one heck of a producer/engineer! I feel that you are the best in the forum! You've got the golden touch on all these tracks!

Thanks, TB

Love the Peter opening; it sets the tone for the tune. Then Janice comes in melting us with the Blues, and the other Janice is mixed so well behind her. The whole piece is so well mixed. I know with you, Bud, I've come to expect it, but you are still improving your craft. Janice, you are so engagingly good, and somehow sounding better each new song. Speaking of new songs, Yeah, you know I say you three do the PD songs better than the thousands of others who've done them before you, but, dang, you write so well. Love the changes in this one. The feeling is contagious in that by listening I become a puppet to its movements, even sitting taller when it swells higher. Then Peter takes us home so well.

Enjoy whatever happens!

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
