Well not long ago, Floyd posted a gut-wrenching song about a waitress.

And I said to myself:

"No! I will NOT sit idly by and let Floyd Jane just walk away with the gut-wrenching, heartbreaking, shoot myself in the head song of the year. I will not!

I decided I had to either man up, or Tom Waits up. I chose the latter.

I am playing drunken, rye-sotted piano, in kind of a free form style, with a gigantic puff of smoke from a pack of Pall Malls.

Hope you cry your eyeballs out!!!!!!

JERSEY VALENTINE

V1

She works at the Denny's
I work at the Exxon
But she still comes home
Greasier than me
She passes out and cries in her sleep
But I can hear what she’s saying
She’s saying she still wants that wedding ring

CH

And I just wish
She could leave the bar
Just one night before closing time
And I wish that we could sober up
And leave our pasts behind
Cause she's all that I've got
And she's all that I'm not
And she is still
My Jersey Valentine

V2

On this boulevard of broken dreams
We don’t stand a chance
And I wish that I could wake her up
Just to have that one last dance
But this life it makes us crippled
So that we can hardly walk
And I tried to go to confession
But I couldn’t even talk

CH

And I just wish she
Could leave the bar
One night before closing time
And I wish that we could sober up
And leave our pasts behind
Cause she's all that I've got
And she's all that I'm not
And she is still
My Jersey Valentine
