Which synth is being used for the high quality midi patches? How do I locate it? Biab 2015 on Win.

Also, I see that the Kv-331 synth comes with the upgraded versions of Biab. Does the 331 have patches that are assigned to the regular 128 patch GM standard? Or, do they have to be manipulated to sound like GM patches?

PG Music use sforzando for the HQ patches and also for playable RealTracks. It's single instrument at a time player though, not a true GM synth.

BiaB also comes with VSTSynthFont64 engine, which is a true GM synth, strangely hidden away in here: C:\bb\Data\libx64 There's a section in the manual on how to use it. It works with SF2 sound fonts, TimbresOfHeaven is quite popular. I did have some strange level issues within BiaB with it ... I'm not sure if that's fixed.

I sometimes use either my Kawai or a Ketron SD1000 as the MIDI player, just sending the MIDI out to one of those. Neither handle audio, though, so I have either a stack of hardware or I don't use RTs or RDs with them. Usually the latter. Recording that would require the audio to be fed back into the PC.

I don't know whether SynthMaster does GM. I think not, but I invariably lose interest before I've found a definitive answer.

Me too.

Actually. I often wish PGM would show a visual routing mapping diagram that shows what goes where with all of the inter-connectivity. This would really help users visualize the actual data paths. A block diagram would be ideal.

FYI - Synthmaster is not a GM synth.

Actually thank you Gordon. I didn't know that BiaB had the VSTSynthFont64 hidden in its files. This should be the go-to for those whom want better GM sounds. There are a lot of SF2s available, both GM and other specific sounds. I haven't worked with SF2s in a long time but when I did there was a editor where you could rearrange SF2s. I had one for rock songs, another for orchestras, a custom GM etc. Maybe that editor is still available, don't know.

There are several around ... SynthFont.com have one themselves in Viena. (Just the one 'n' is correct). https://www.synthfont.com/index.html
Apart from that one, I only really know the ones on Linux, though they may be cross-platform ... hmm, sigh, here I go:

Polyphone ... Linux inc. Rasp-Pi, Windows, Mac. https://www.polyphone.io/en
swami ... Linux only at present. http://www.swamiproject.org/
Synthopia ... Linux or Windows. https://www.synthtopia.com/

BiaB also comes with VSTSynthFont64 engine, which is a true GM synth, strangely hidden away in here: C:\bb\Data\libx64

My C:\bb\Data\ doesn't show lib? The first L listing is lastupdatecheck.txt ? I have Biab 2015, so maybe that's the problem?

However, I was able to d/l the SYXG50 soft synth Vsti and get it to work with Biab and the XG Patches sound amazing!
I'll have another look-see for the library mentioned above.

Thanks again,

Trax

2015 may well be the issue with the libx64.

Where did you get the SYXG50, please? There appear to be two ... the original (obsolete? but findable) from Yamaha and (a clone?) from veg.by
