David Bennett undertakes really extensive research into the material he produces.
I am often left in awe of the thoroughness of his posts.

Yes.

I used one on my next to last song here: THE HERO.

It was heroic when I did it.

It also sounded Heroic.

So yes. The answer is yes.

We finished a song a couple of weeks ago that has two subtle mods in it. SoundCloud picked it up for placement on a trending playlist so perhaps they are back. 😀

I actually really never thought that key changes were the prevailing fashion for a specific musical period. They have always had their place in music, and always will.

One of my favorite key changes of all time which I think is absolute genius is Penny Lane
.
It starts off in A. And then it goes to G for the chorus.

Wow. Cool man.

I hope key changes are making a comeback - as I hope borrowed chords are. While a good song all in the diatonic can be delightful, there is nothing as surprisingly beautiful as a well crafted key change or insertion of a borrowed chord. Listen to this wonderful song from late 70s (I think) Voyager - Halfway Hotel -

or this song from Australian band Thirsty Merc - My completeness:

Wonderful stuff! Without multi-key progressions / borrowed chords, these songs wouldn't exist. It's part of the magic that is music!

Agreed. I never knew it left. It can be a very versatile and intuitive part of a composition. A worthwhile added dimension.

With modern church music, key changes have become ubiquitous. It’s boring as hell.

I can write songs with key changes and they are still boring.

Maybe it's the composer, not the song.
Yes, people can also write songs without key changes "and they are still boring". It happens.

Thank goodness that I don't listen to modern church music. I hate to be bored.

I wasn't aware they had left.

As with everything else.... the song itself dictates if there's a key change/modulation in the song or not. Same thing with rit endings and bridges.
