I have the opportunity to pick up (free) a Technics Digital Piano (Digital Ensemble) brand but don't the exact model #? It is a single owner keyboard that has been in storage for many yeaars and the owner simply wants it moved from her storage. Husband who has passed on bought it new back in the day. The soundboard was way ahead of its time and was one of the most expensive keyboards back then.

She tells me everything still works on it, but it is was covered when placed in storage. However, it does have dust covering it since being in storage for so long. She is going to let me know the model # once she has a chance to return to storage.

I have a picture of it on my iPhone but don't know how to upload it to my pc directly? (Able to load pic at bottom) I remember shopping for my first midi keyboard and there was a Technics Keyboard displayed in the center showroom floor of the music store. I remember playing it then (20+) years ago and was blown away at how the midi patches sounded like real instruments, even back then. The $ tag was around $5,000 at the time, which I couldn't afford.

I believe it is one of the top models of the day due to all of the buttons and lcd screen it comes with.

I know it says Technics above the lcd screen and also says Digital Ensemble on the sheet music holder. Without knowing the specific model, I have been unable to find a rear panel picture showing the connections from the rear of the Piano.

How would I go about trying to clean/blow dust off of it? I know the Pianos/Organs/Strings sound amazing on it. It supposedly has 900 patches/sounds that come with it, along with accompaniment tracks.

I would like to use it with Biab as basically a midi controller along with the Piano/Organ patches mainly.

Is it worth picking up and possibly clean/restore to use with Biab?

Thanks,

Trax

Use a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment. Blowing will more likely push dust into places you don't want. Vacuuming has a better chance to extract the dust.

If you don't have any other keyboard controller and it's free, what do you have to lose?
Yes, it was a fine keyboard in its day .. that was long ago but could prove serviceable.

Does it have MIDI connections?

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

I think it has the 3 old round 5 pin connections, but not sure. If i knew the exact model # I'm sure there's an owner manual online somewhere?

Never thought of that approach! If I can get it, I will definitely invest in some vaccuum attachments. That makes perfect sense, thanks for the advice.

If it's that old, then yes, it's most likely to have the 5-pin DIN connectors for MIDI. This can easily be converted to USB with a Roland UM-ONE USB MIDI interface (or similar)

I see Technics no longer supply parts for it anymore, so I think I'll have to pass on it.
