You're talking about micro chords, all on the beat.
The problem I'm talking about is that I find that when I bring some chords forward 1/8, they don't sound good.... Question: How did you "bring some chords forward 1/8"? What technique did you use? Microchords are not 'all on the beat'. If the time signature is 4/4, then there are 4 beats to the bar, and each beat is worth one one quarter note. Yes? Micro-chords should allow you to position a chord at any one of 16 locations on a bar with a 4/4 time signature. Granted, the results might not always be ideal.
