12 Strings and Friends

I am so far out of my comfort zone on this one if I were playing left field I would be behind the wall in the parking lot; a baseball reference for my non-American friends.

BiaB style - Horizon MIDI New Age Piano Pop
Tempo - 90 BPM

I deleted the guitar and bass tracks.
Drums - Seven Slate's SSD-5 - Designer - Cut Ya kit
Piano - EZKeys2 - Session Grand - Basic
Strings - Kontak - Amadeus - Full String Ensemble

I am playing my acoustic 12 string guitar

Via my breath and keyboard controllers:
Bassoon - copied and raised an octave for the oboe
Cello
Violin - copied and lowered and octave for the viola
French horn - wrote the 2nd (harmony) part

Via my keyboard controller:
Basses - Kontakt - Amadeus - basses
Brass - horn stabs - Amadeus - full brass ensemble

As always all comments are welcomed.

Whenever I get something stuck in the back of my throat, I dislodge it by drinking a beer.

Comfort zone is for wimps smile
The intro reminds me a bit of “Peter and the Wolf”, and then it gets kinda classical.
For my taste the drums make it a bit too experimental, I would prefer a version without them to make it more atmospheric.

Mario,

You are forever creating new sounds that are so pleasant. You might be out of your comfort zone, but it certainly doesn't seem like it. I do agree with B.D. that it might be more ethereal minus the drums. But it's your song - you get to call the shots.

I ALWAYS love your musical experiments. Really nice, my friend.

Alan

Ha! This sounds GREAT! Reminds me of "Bolero" on an acid trip, not that I'm an expert on either "Bolero" or acid trips. Wonderful composition, and the usual great playing on all real and virtual instruments. The 12-string is a treat as are the duet sections. Love the swirling string pad, too. A super cool tune!

Really creative, Mario, I wouldn't even know how to start producing a piece like this.

Nice!

Hello Mario
Overall, I like the composition. There are some dissonances in the layering of instruments, but that may be a deliberate choice that doesn't bother me. The drums are a bit time-consuming, but I like this avenue of experimentation.

Mario,

No, you are at third snagging hot line drives with ease! In other words, you know what you are doing and making it sound great!
When the nylon sounding guitar came in, it really made the song come alive to me!
Nice work! TB

My ears are saying, "what???" and yet, I love the exploration of harmony and dissonance. There are themes in here that you could pull out and play with futher for sure. The playfulness reminds me a lot of Porpoise Song by the Monkees (who pretty much stole the idea from the Beatles, I think).

Thanx for your input Brian. I had a difficult time with the drums as in should I include them or not. I ended including them to make the song not as atmospheric as my other songs. Possibly I made a big mistake.

Thanx so much Ron. This was an experiment that I thought came out OK. It has opened a few more doors for me to investigate!

Thanx Dave. I'm sure you could produce a song like this and it would come out even better with your guitar. Give it a try.

Thanx Laurent. I tried to incorporate some dissonances then resolve them. Hopefully that resolution came across. I had a hard time with the drums, i.e. keep them or not. Maybe I should have left them out.

Thanx Torrey. Thanx for that nylon guitar comment, I appreciated it. I'm glad that you think that I know what I am doing as I don't!

Thanx Beth. I had to look up the Porpoise song and yes they did steal the idea from the Beatles.

Thanx so much Tom. I had always said with BiaB and a little imagination one can produce any genre of music.
