At some points, my ears were expecting an old-school Rock'n'Roll progression (which I think would have given the song even more drive), but it didn't happen.

But, nonetheless, I really enjoyed listening to the song.

No, the chords were determined by my brain & guitar before BIAB and quite a bit before I decided to add bass. The choice of the old bass & flats was a last minute thing.
You'll find the fairly trad boogie/rock n roll bass in the verses and the last chorus I think. It's there but doesn't seem obvious - possibly the tempo?
