Hello Musical Friends,

This is probably my last for awhile (aren't you relieved?) until the muse visits again. I struggled to find the right style and keep this from sounding too corny. I eventually landed on funk and I think it helped. But I ended up with so many tracks it got very hard to keep track of everything. So my style sheet is not correct/complete. Sorry!

Awaken on Soundcloud

You are the life
you are the sun
you are the truth
you are the one
it is time
to awaken
now awaken

we are the life
we are the sun
we are the truth
we are all One
it is time
to awaken
let's awaken

we've believed for far too long
they had the power, we had none
when it was ours all along
so let's declare it with this song

we are the life
we are the sun
we are the truth
we are all One
it is time
to awaken
let's awaken

it's all a mystery
it's true
we can't make sense
or even prove
what is real
we must awaken
must awaken

cast off the chains of every lie
they were imagined anyhow
affirm the truth and we defy
lift up and let your voices cry

we are the life
we are the sun
we are the truth
we are all One
it is time
to awaken
let's awaken

Nice one.
There are a couple of areas that the vocals seem jumbled but other than that it's a pleasant rousing song.

Beth, very nicely done. Don't think this version sounds corny in the slightest. The funk style was a risky choice, but I like it a lot. The arrangement and mix are quite nice. Like your subtle use of the BiaB oohs. Fabulous vocals as always. I do find the hard panning of the harmony lines a little distracting. "HEY, listen to ME! I'm over HERE!" That's just me though. Super job!

Beth,

I think this sounds great. Love the tracks selections and the melody is fantastic, as is your excellent vocal.

A new favorite for me.

I'm not the biggest fan of funk, but I think it works quite well here.
Your vocals are very good and pleasant with nice harmonies.

I don't think it sounds very corny, but if you feel that way, I would consider embracing the corniness and making it REALLY corny on purpose.
If a song wants to go there, well - what can you do?

Hi Ron,

Thanks for your comments. If you see this, for my clarity, I'd like to know if it is the hard pan alone or just the volumes of it or a little of both that doesn't sit right for you.

Thanks, Vic. Hmm...yeah, I doubled up quite a bit attempting a chorus of voices to build the song. Maybe it didn't work very well.

Maybe a little of both. I found the extreme panning of the harmony pulling my attention away from the lovely lead vocal. Sometimes this is what you as a creator want to do, but I did not get that impression from the lyrical context. If harmony panning were say 20% left, the current volume level would likely be ok.

On the other hand, some pretty astute listeners have commented on this song without mentioning the harmony panning, so...it really COULD just be me.

Panning and levels of harmony relative to lead vocals are just two of many artistic choices, so definitely stick with what you like best. smile

The muse surely lives within you, Beth. Interesting choice of funk. If you cringe at the corny, you should probably skip the one I'm posting this morning. You have done a fine job throwing all of those tracks at this cool funky one. There is so much interest in there. Two times through, and still nothing in there seems uneeded. Excellent vocal and I like your use of the BiaB ooze and oz.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Beth - I’ve always admired your urge to ‘dig deeper’, your drive to explore the more
meaningful sides of life and show & share that which really matters!
You know how to prod us with your wise words -
so many need a good shove to awaken,
you did a great ‘push’ with this song!!

Hi Beth,

Nice song and delivery. I always enjoy hour visits to the forum.

My muse is a bit quirky - she often goes on vacation without informing me first. She's a quirky little brat!

Thanks for a very pleasant listen. Hope you're not gone too long!!!

Alan

Beth,
sounds great.
Sweet tune. I think track choices you made work very well. Excellent vocals. Sounds like 60s-70s soul pop music, which I like. If I am not mistaken, you were aiming for that vintage feel. Enjoyed and thank you for sharing.

Great tune, great singing. I had no problem with the vocal arrangement, it worked fine for my ears. Hope to hear more in the near future.

Thank you, Carl. I do appreciate the deeper aspects of life, but I've never known anyone to enjoy being pushed, so I hope it doesn't come across quite that way.
