Hello again fellow posters: For folks of my vintage, the guitar bands of the early 1960s (Ventures, Shadows, et al) were the inspiration to pick up a cheap Silvertone and learn bar chords. The energy was high and the songs were relatively easy to learn. This new instrumental posting is intended to pay tribute to that time and vibe. https://soundcloud.com/mick-grainger/sagebrush-rumbleBiaB contributions include: POPOMED.STY with RTs as follows: 686 Organ, B3 Background Pop 1705 Guitar, Electric, Soloist CountryBrent 2449 Guitar, Electric, Background, PopDreamyBrent Real Drums, Nashville Even8 I also use UJAM Legend drums and Dandy bass, NI Electric Vintage and play my Tele. Editing, mixing and mastering is handled within Studio One. Cheers, Mick PS - Quentin T. if you're listening, it's available for your next flick. 😊

Hey T.T.
I grew up in that era, but a few years earlier. I'll be 78 tomorrow. And yes, The Ventures' "Walk Don't Run" was one of the triggers for me.
This is really nice! All the reverb and treble necessary for the vintage sound. Your Tele licks are spot on. I played a Tele and an ES-335 for many years. Now I play a Stromberg Jazz guitar and an older Ibanez solid body.
I like the strong drum track. everything works. Nice job on everything.
Take care,
Alan

Great tribute to the oldies with a bit of acid rock thrown in! Enjoyed it.

Sounds definitely Quentin Tarantino-ish. Would go well with one of his movies. Well done!

Cool.... Groovy man.
The perfect amount of reverb to make it period appropriate. I'm still in awe of how easy it is to get a really good guitar solo that rivals anything a really good live player would do.
Nice

Oh yes. I remember that era well. The Ventures, The Shadows, Link Wray etc. They all helped to kick it off. Thanks for the nostalgia.

I thought it would be too busy because of all the guitars, but it was fine. Good playing, if you could only get a hold of QT's ear, he just might take you up on it.

Mick, very groovy. Nice vintage sound with updated Knopfleresque licks. Super composition and nice mix. Atmospheric and cool, just like QT...

Mick, A very good instrumental and lived up to your intro and description of it. I thought you did really well developing the main theme but with different tones and backing, but still referencing back to the original.
I thought the title was very apt. What came first I wonder? Did you have a title at the start or was the title inspired by what you had?
Good work!

Oh, man, I am standing in front of the stage watching the guitarist in the basement of the "Little White Church On THe Hill." The band was The Starfires, and I was hooked. Yep, definitely of your vintage, Twinkle. I had to play this again to give it a good listen. The first time I was lost a bit in reverie. Yeow, this is so good. That Twinkle Toes tele tells a great story of this history. Remarkable playing, and I like the band that surrounds you.

Mick, this brought back many fond memories of that era. I'll be 79 next month and I started playing guitar because of The Venture, The Shadows, Link Ray, Scotty Moore, etc. Well actually I started playing guitar because I saw guitarist getting all the girls , regardless, excellent chops and mix Loved it Ps - I am also a Sears SilverTone guitar and amp ex-user!

Responders: I'm very grateful to all that have taken the time to comment on this track, it's useful and very encouraging.
Several of your comments indicate that you have had a similar start in your musical journey. A few specific responses - Mario, in my main band the guitarists got the girls but then the drummer stole them, the b**tard! I used a Silvertone tube amp in those days but the spring reverb would cut in and out randomly on its own. Made for some interesting performances.
To Andrew in Oz, the tune came first. I thought of the word "rumble" because it's pretty dated (like me). I love the organic, dusty sound of the UJAM midi drums so that took me to "sagebrush".
BabuMusic, that could have been me standing in the "Little White Church On The Hill". Same deal for me, different location (The Fireballs, Trianon Ball Room, Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada).
Lastly, it means the world to me to hear the tune was able to evoke some pleasant memories for folks. Thank you all,
Mick

Enjoyed the listen. The "wind" noise in the beginning and end were fitting with the songs title, bringing image of sagebrush blowing in the desert.

I'm picking up that Ventures vibe, especially with your Tele parts. You've added a "harder" feel than the 60s references, and it sounds excellent. Love the title.

Hi Mick,
That's a nice song you made! The wind coming in, than the drums, and suddenly a full sound with the bass, bariton guitar and lead guitar, and at the end the wind again. I like this combination a lot! But what I tell you know must sounds weird in your ears; in the distance (of the song) I heard a bit of Rawhide. I can't tell what caused that, maybe the combination of the barito and the solo guitar. I listened 3 times and every time I got the same feeling...
Hans
